Songs For Saturday: Foo Fighters

This week's Songs For Saturday presents a play list in tribute to  Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins who died last week at the too young age of 50.

Hawkins was the Foo Fighters’ drummer beginning with the band’s third album, “There Is Nothing Left to Lose,” released in 1999, and performed on the group’s next seven albums.

Leading off today's play list is a live version of "Learning to Fly".

Bassist Nate Mendel said last year in an interview with Rolling Stone that Hawkins came into a band that was “pretty scrappy, in general, and kind of acclimated to that for a second, and then was like, ‘Hang on a second, what if we become good?’”

Up next from the Foo Fighters is "No Way Back".

Among the descriptive accolades about Taylor Hawkins were “incredible talent”,  “one of rock’s greatest drummers” and my favorite “coolest dude ever".

And more Foo Fighters awesomeness with "Times Like These".

Even though "Everlong" was written before Taylor Hawkins joined the band, here is a live cut with Taylor behind the kit.

And that wraps up our playlist for today. It's a damn shame to lose someone who was such a talented musician and all around "coolest dude ever".

Our world is richer for Taylor's presence in it and colder for his absence from it.

Until next time, remember to be good to one another and to always keep the music alive.

For music keeps us alive even after life itself has gone.
