Republican led state legislatures and Republican governors across the country are churning out all sorts of legislation to further the objectives of a specific and shrinking segment of the population, conservatives using religion as a cudgel to hold on to political power.
Laws to ban books and ban words, laws to curtail the rights of others, laws designed to disengage and unempower.
Nowhere have this legislative efforts been more fully realized than in the area of curbing or even eliminating a woman's right top choose what to do with her body, whether or not to have an abortion.
Laws have been coming out conservative states at furious pace, restrictive, punitive and draconian laws.
It may come as little to no surprise that the states with the most restrictive anti-abortion laws are the same states with the worst track record of providing any kind of safety net for children according to an analysis of federal data by The Associated Press
Mississippi has the nation’s largest share of children living in poverty and babies with low birth weights, according to the U.S. Census Bureau and the Centers for Disease Control. The state also has super strict rules on abortion.
Texas has the highest rate of women receiving no prenatal care during their first trimester and ranks second worst for the proportion of children in poverty who are uninsured. And Texas has enacted the most draconian laws against abortion in the nation.
The same states that give a big ol' "Fuck You" to women who want or need an abortion also give a big ol' "Fuck You" to women who want or need help to ensure their children are healthy, fed, educated and safe.
Some conservative politicians have taken the viewpoint that women who are too poor to care for their children can simply give them up for adoption.
The idea of anti-abortion laws are there to protect the lives of unborn children is utter bullshit in the face of the reality that the politicians who pass these laws certainly do not give a single damn fuck for these children once they are born.
The point of these anti-abortion efforts is to subjogate women and marginalize the poor.
Women and children (born and unborn) are cannon fodder for conservatives to make pious evangelical Christians feel good about themselves for stopping abortions and to make hard right politicians feel good for curbing government spending at the expense of the poor.
Won't someone think of the children?
Why when this isn't really about children or their mothers?
It's about power. Political power.
