I was reading an article about mindfulness by Joe Burton, former president of Headspace and an internationally recognized expert on the subject of mental health.
Mindfulness is awareness and attention training that helps create daily habits to calm and focus the mind and relax the central nervous system.
In this particular article, Burton made the following observation:
"When it comes to training ourselves to be distracted, we’ve gotten to the point at which a Microsoft study estimates that human beings now have the attention span of 8 to 12 seconds. That’s about the same that a frickin’ goldfish has. In case you drifted off, I said a frickin’ goldfish."
So this assessment of the current human condition resonated with me as I pondered the recent trauma the United States elected to inflict upon itself last week.
A majority of Americans decided they were absolutely fine with history repeating itself and elected Donald Trump to return to the White House.
What the fuck? Really?!?!
Yes, really. Yesterday made it super official when Arizona finished counting their votes and flipped the state red, giving Trump 312 electoral votes to 226 for Kamala Harris.

Kamala Harris underperformed with men against Donald Trump.
Jesse Watters on Fox News said any man who voted for Kamala Harris was less than a MAN and men listened to him, I guess.
But here's the deal: it was not just white men with their polo shirts and Tiki torches angry about being replaced by others who are not white men but....

Yes, the same guy who was found guilty of sexually assaulting a woman, bragged about grabbing women by the pussy and set the stage for the loss of rights for women to have reproductive freedom, that guy did better with women in 2024 than he did with women in 2020.

Also driving support for Donald Trump was the economy!
Voters viewed Donald Trump as being better with economic issues.
Why, you might ask?
Because Donald Trump is a super smart and super successful businessman!
Except of course he isn't and he isn't!
FUN FACT: If Donald Trump had taken the money his daddy gave him and did nothing with it but just let it be managed by accountants and stockbrokers and just lived the life of a gad about playboy, Li'l Donnie would be wealthier than the Donald Trump who set out to prove he was a super smart and super successful businessman!
Trump's proposed economic plan is nothing more then slapping tariffs on everything which (he thinks) will drive companies to make shit in America again and drive down how much stuff cost.
FUN FACT: That is NOT how tariffs work.
And Trump voters remember how great things were when he was President last time.

When he was President last time, Li'l Donnie got in a pissing match with China and slapped a bunch of tariffs on shit and China retaliated and this tariff war solved nothing but did almost put bunch of farmers out of business save for Trump going hat in hand to Congress to proposer a bail out for farmers.
Also a lot of manufacturing jobs that were already in the US were lost when tariffs made the import of raw materials to actually make stuff here too expensive.

Of course there's 2020 when Trump totally fucked up the response to the COVID pandemic.
Apparently the pandemic that left over a million Americans dead was not that big of a deal to Trump voters.
