Hey, here’s a word for you: kakistocracy.
It describes a government run by the worst, least qualified, or most unscrupulous citizens.
Kakistocracy is derived from two Greek words, kakistos ( worst) and kratos (rule).
Fun fact: there is NO word for a government run by the best, most qualified, or most scrupulous citizens. I guess when we actually see such a thing, we’ll come up with a word for it then.
But kakistocracy will do for the total fuckery we’re facing for 2025.
On Monday we reflected on how we got here in a world where Donald Trump is President... again.
Now that he is....
Now what?
The standard for people to serve in Trump's 2nd administration is pretty damn low. As Donald Trump Jr, "We don't want anyone who thinks they know more than my father."
Loyalty to Trump was always going to be the deciding factor in assembling a new administration for Li'l Donnie.
Any Republicans who have a semblance of common sense and loyalty to the Constitution over Donald Trump are not going to make the cut. Most of them declared they were voting for Kamala Harris.
Which leaves the bottom of the barrel for those who will pledge their loyalty to Donald Trump above anything else.
His choice to lead the EPA is a guy with strong connections to the fossil fuel industry and is in lockstep with Trump to roll back rules and regulations that protect the environment.
So far every single person who has been announced to take over various governmental positions have a background of supporting Trump against his impeachments and his big lie that the 2020 election was stolen.
(Right before the 2024 election, Trump and his sniveling sycophants were all bleating there was massive fraud in the electoral process. Trump wins and all of sudden, where did all those accusations go?)
Being any kind of an expert or having any sort of background in their assigned position does not mean shit but loyalty to Trump will carry the day.
New York Rep.Elise Stefanik was named to be Trump's Ambassador to the United Nations. Stefanik has little to no foreign policy experience and is expected to face off with antagonistic ambassadors from Russia and China. But she's been loyal to Donald Trump through our everything.
Trump named Susie Wiles as White House Chief of Staff. Wiles has survived in Trump's orbit for a long time as a manager of his campaign by avoiding the limelight and being one of the few people who can tell Li'l Donnie "no". Nominally, the Chief of Staff is tasked with helping move a President's agenda on Capitol Hill but Wiles has virtually no political connections to do that kind of work but gets the job for being loyal and having some small amount of control over Li'l Donnie.
We'll see how well that works.
What we're looking towards in 2025 is government BELOW the lowest common denominator.
Welcome to the kakistocracy.
