Trials and Tribulations

The Senate Trial for Donald Trump's impeachment is underway and I wish I could pretend there's some kind of suspense here.

"A fraught and tense nation awaits as the Senate Trial for Donald Trump's impeachment gets underway. The very fate of Trump's Presidency is at stake depending on how the Senate votes in the wake of this trial."

No, there's nothing like that going on.

The fix is in. And Mitch McConnell is working overtime to insure that Trump will not be removed from office, pushing for a speedy trial with no witnesses and no new documents.

The only real drama came when Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts scolded House impeachment managers and White House counsel for their lack of decorum after the two groups traded insults .

“I think it is appropriate at this point for me to admonish both the House managers and president’s counsel in equal terms to remember that they are addressing the world’s greatest deliberative body. Those addressing the Senate should remember where they are.”

Really? "The world’s greatest deliberative body"? Since the Republican majority has already made up it's mind to acquit Donald Trump, I don't think there's much "deliberation" needed when the fix is already in.

In other words, "Ain't nothing gonna happen."
