Superman In Congress

Two Superman themed posts in a row?

Yep and this one falls in the Venn diagram of comics and politics.

Years ago, I was following Robert Garcia on Twitter as a fellow comic book nerd.'

Then I realized this comic book nerd was the mayor of Long Beach, CA?

Wow!

Now Robert is ready to move up to a national political stage as the newest Congressperson in the United States House of Representatives.

When Robert Garcia is sworn into office, he will be taking his oath with his hand upon the following documents:

  • a copy of the United States Constitution
  • a copy of his citizenship certificate (Garcia was born in Lima, Peru, before moving to the United States with his mother when he was 5)
  • a photo of his mother and step-father (who sadly both died from COVID-19) and...
  • a copy of Superman#1 from 1939, the first issue of Superman's solo ongoing series.

No, not a reprint or a reproduction but an actual copy from the year 1939 of Superman#1 held by the Library of Congress.

How cool is that?!

Very cool, that's what!

Congratulations to Congressman Robert Garcia, a comic book nerd who made it to the halls of Congress.
