Dave-El's Spinner Rack: Flash of Two Worlds

A few weeks ago at Greensboro's Acme Comics (the BEST comic book shop in the WORLD),  I purchased a reproduction of this comic book:

Trust me, I paid more than 10 cents for this comic. The reproduction was for the current base line price for comics, $3.99.

The cool thing about these reproductions is that (other than the cover price) the book appears as it originally did with letter columns and ads.

204 revolutionary war soldiers? They can be yours for $1.98.

This particular issue is Flash#123 and features the classic tale "Flash of Two Worlds."

Ever since the new Flash, Barry Allen, was introduced, fans were wondering whatever happened to Jay Garrick, the original Flash.

With this issue, editor Julius Schwartz, writer Gardner Fox and artists Carmine Infantino & Joe Giella provide the answer.

Jay Garrick is alive and well and living on an Earth similar to Barry's Earth but slightly different.

Yep, this is the issue that lays the foundation for the DC multi-verse.

In addition to the original Flash, the issue also brings back 3 of his classic foes: the Fiddler, the Thinker and the Shade.

The thieving threesome are more than a match for even TWO super speedsters but Barry & Jay are as smart as they are fast and outwit the terrible trio of villains.

Side note: the adventures of Jay Garrick's Flash are known on Barry's Earth. Barry used to read Flash comics when he was a kid which is what inspired him to adopt the identity of the Flash when Barry gained super speed powers.

Another plus for this issue: bold black lettering in white word and thought balloons. No need to squint to read tiny italic yellow lettering on purple caption boxes.

Flash#123 and "Flash of Two Worlds" was a fun book to experience not just to re-live this classic tale but to experience once more a comic in the style and format of a simpler time in comic books.
