Breaking News: Joe Biden Is Still Old! (And Trump Is Shot?!?!)

So I was pleased that I had finished my political themed post for Monday.  

I'm all set and can move on to writing stuff for the rest of the week like the Tuesday TV Touchbase. 

Then Donald Trump gets shot! 

What the fuck? Really?!? 

There was this guy who posted on Tik Tok the following message: "Can't we go just one week or even just a day or so WITHOUT something unprecedented happening in this Presidential campaign?"  

Trump is OK. The bullet grazed his ear. One rally attendee was not so lucky and died. And the shooter is also dead. 

By the time today (Monday) rolls around, we will know more I'm sure. 

So pardon me while I give myself some time to parse my feelings and thoughts on the fallout of this event.

So what's new in the political world?

Not much, it seems.

A few weeks ago on a Thursday, Biden had a disastrous performance in his debate with Donald Trump.

OH NO! Biden is OLD and Trump's gonna win this thing and we are all so totally and completely FUCKED!  

The next day, a Friday, Biden appeared at a rally in North Carolina and spoke with power and conviction and got the crowd all excited that Biden can and will kick Trump's fat ass.

HELL YEAH!  Biden's still got it! Who cares if he's old? Biden is going to mop up the floor in with that sorry ass lying con man come November!  

Last week...

On Thursday, Biden had a disastrous performance in a solo news conference with reporters.

The next day, Friday, Biden appeared at a rally in Michigan and spoke with power and conviction and got the crowd all excited that Biden can and will kick Trump's fat ass.

HELL YEAH!  Biden's got this! Who cares if he's old? Biden will show that sorry ass lying con man what's what come November! 

Shit! This is one manic depressive Moebius strip we are on! 

I think we've got this thing figured out: don't let Biden talk on Thursdays.  

But that may not be a sufficient solution.  

Calls for Biden to step down as the Democratic nominee continue. Including from George Clooney who recently hosted a $30 million fund raiser for Biden.  

Rushing to Biden's defense was...  Donald Trump? 

Basically, Trump said Clooney is just an actor and not even a very good one at that and should just shut the fuck up.  

Well, Li'l Donnie, you were just the host of a reality TV show and not even a very good one at that and should just shut the fuck up.  

Over on the NPR show Wait! Wait! Don't Tell Me, Paula Poundstone said "if George Clooney really wants to help, get Donald Trump to leave."   

My wife Andrea is worried that there is more at play here than Joe Biden is still old. She's concerned he may have had a stroke or is experiencing the onset of dementia or Alzheimer's. 

I think she might be getting ahead of herself and it's enough to explain Joe' lapses as just getting old. But it is hard to argue against the worst alternatives that Andrea fears when we've both seen family members on this same path.   

Meanwhile, Vice President Kamala Harris was in Greensboro on Thursday.  Helicopters were buzzing over the Fortress of Ineptitude.  

Whenever the President or Vice President arrives at our local airport near our house, helicopters roam the skies to check out the motorcade route from above. 

Harris appeared at Dudley High School to deliver a very clear and powerful speech in defense of President Biden and deliver cogent attacks on Donald Trump. 

I've linked up to the You Tube video of her speech below. The 12 minute mark is where Harris gives a particularly forceful repudiation of Trump and a forceful defense of Biden on the  subject of national security.  

 

Harris gives a very effective case for Joe Biden but she also sets a strong and vibrant standard that she could step up and take point as President and the Democratic Party's nominee. 

Look, if Biden decides to stay in this race, then I am, as they say, "ridin' with Biden". There is nothing more important than to make sure Donald Trump is NOT the President again. 

I will vote for ALIVE Joe Biden!

I will vote for ALMOST DEAD Joe Biden!!

I will if need be vote for ZOMBIE Joe Biden if I have to!!! 

But such hyperbole aside, there is too much at stake here.  

A victory for Donald Trump in November signals a definitive death knell for democracy in this country. There are plans to gut the government of trained professionals and replace them with Trump loyalists.  There are plans with a Trump victory to decimate the rights of women, the LGBTQ+ community and more. 

Breaking News: Joe Biden is still old. But he is on your side.

Breaking News: Donald Trump is ALSO still OLD!! 

AND he says stupid stuff!!! 

And he is NOT on your side.  Donald Trump is on the side of Donald Trump. Always has been, is and forever will be. 

C'mon! This should not be this hard!
