I wanted to comment on last week’s news about an evangelical
Christian group that put together a petition to force Netflix to cancel Good
Omens.
Good Omens is on Amazon Prime Video, not Netflix. Also,
there is nothing to cancel. Good Omens was commissioned for and produced 6 episodes.
That’s not to say there couldn’t be a sequel to those 6 episodes but for now,
those 6 episodes are a self contained thing.
There is no 7th episode and counting coming down the pike from
Amazon, Netflix or anybody.
This kerluffle over Good Omens points out something that has
irked me for years and it is an irk that I’ve passed down to my daughter Randie:
people not doing their pop culture research.
Just because it’s an animated movie doesn’t mean it’s a Disney
movie. Anastasia is not a Disney movie. Wonder
Park is not a Disney movie.
Just because it’s a computer generated animated film does
not mean it’s a Pixar movie. Kung Fu Panda, How To Train Your Dragon and the
Secret Life of Pets are not from Pixar.
Just because it’s based on a comic book doesn’t mean it’s a DC
show or a Marvel movie. Walking Dead is not DC; Hellboy is not Marvel.
Just because it’s on a streaming service doesn’t mean its on
Netflix. Star Trek Discovery is not on
Netflix. And nope, neither is Good Omens.
