I'm writing this on Wednesday,January 6th at approximately 4:30 PM.
I am watching the United States of America fall into an abyss of rage.
An armed insurrection led by Trump supporters overran the US Capitol while Congress was in session to certify the votes of the Electoral College.
Egged on by Trump's persistent lies about the election being fraudulent, his supporters stormed the House and the Senate, proclaiming Trump won the election.
Capitol police moved quickly to secure the safety of Congressional leaders and staffers.
Trump stayed silent for several hours because why should he say anything? After all, this insurrection was happening in support of his ego and his delusions of victory. Earlier this morning, he spoke to the crowd at a rally, stoking their rage. It isn't in his self interest to stop it.
It is in the interest of America's democratic values for it to stop. Joe Biden spoke first, urging Americans to be better than this and demanding that Donald Trump man up and say something.
Finally, Li'l Donnie eventually emerged from his hidey hole, telling the protesters it's time to go home. While still repeating his lies about the election.
I have never seen anything like this in my lifetime.
