Tuesday TV Touchbase: Duck Tales and Supergirl

The show aired a couple of months back but my wife Andrea and I just recently caught up to the series finale of Duck Tales.

I'm normally on top of things like this but the ending of Duck Tales caught me by surprise.

It's a shame the show had to end, if for no other reason than David Tennant's work as the voice of Scrooge McDuck was always so exemplary.

The final episode is ominously titled "The Last Adventure" and it does seem like the nefarious machinations of FOWL are culminating to an end to McDuck's adventuring ways.

There's an epic confrontation where all of Scrooge McDuck's enemies are on hand to see that his adventuring days are done.

There's also a major revelation about Webby and the truth of who she is and her actual connection to the McDuck family.

It is ultimately a kids' show from Disney so no worries, Scrooge and his whole extended family live to adventure another day.

While Duck Tales sticks the landing for it's series finale, the journey of Supergirl to it's own series finale is taking a most circuitous route.

In the final episode of season 5, Supergirl has been exiled in the Phantom Zone.

So far in season 6...

Episode 1: Supergirl is in the Phantom Zone.

Episode 2: Supergirl is still in the Phantom Zone.

Episode 3: Supergirl remains in the Phantom Zone.

Episode 4: Supergirl escapes from... no, I'm kidding, Supergirl continues to be in the Phantom Zone.

Episode 5: Supergirl is not only in the Phantom Zone but also not in the episode.

Episode 6: Supergirl in Phantom Zone, not in episode.

With a finite number of episodes left in the damn series, the paucity of Melissa Benoist on screen in action as Supergirl or Kara Danvers is more than a little frustrating.

I understand the limitations of filming with pandemic restrictions and Melissa just recently having a baby have necessitated some of these decisions but still. Out of a 20 episode season and 6 episodes gone, that leaves only 14 episodes left to wrap up the adventures of Kara Danvers and her caped alter ego.

The last two episodes were a fun diversion with Brainy and Nia going back in time to Kara's high school prom to collect DNA needed for their latest attempt to save Supergirl from the Phantom Zone.  Instead of keeping a low profile, Briany winds up joining the Midvale High glee club, drama club and baseball team. He's also picked up a bad habit of stress eating.

Mia has a some cool development hanging out with teenage Kara and exploring the limits of her power to do... whatever the hell she does! (Seriously! What is that blue energy she zaps everything with? It has the power to do whatever the plot requires.)

It was cool to see Cat Grant, albeit in a younger form via Eliza Helm.

And some really good casting of Izabela Vidovic as young Kara Danvers who really captured Melissa Benoist's look and mannerisms so well.

Tonight is the 7th episode of the season and the last for a couple of months as Superman & Lois returns to take over the slot for awhile.

Will Supergirl finally get out of the Phantom Zone? She damn well better but the show has managed to string me along for 6 episodes so far so I'm not particularly hopeful.

And that is that for today's Tuesday TV Touchbase. Next week, we take a look at what's up with Young Sheldon.

Until next time, remember to be good to one another and to keep it down, would ya? I'm trying to watch TV over here.
