What's At Steak

This past Sunday, the family absconded from the Fortress of Ineptitude to enjoy a hearty repast of steak in honor of Mother's Day.

Over the past year, we have not deprived ourselves of steak but we have learned that of all the foods that are available for delivery or pick up, steak does not travel well.

By the time the restaurant puts it in a box, the box is picked up and driven back to the house, even the best prepared, juiciest cut of steak will not be as good once it hits the plate on the dining room table.

Steak is best when it comes straight from the flaming grill to your restaurant table. This Sunday wasn't the first time we've had steak over the last year but it is the first time we've had steak in over 12 months that was well and truly good. My steak was so tender and ridiculously easy to cut.

Well, I should enjoy steak while I can before Joe Biden takes our beef away.

And in case you're wondering what that is about...

No, President Joe Biden has not said one damn word about restricting our access to hamburgers and steaks.

But that hasn't stopped Fox News and other right wing media outlets from screaming that Biden's gonna cancel cows.

Basically, Biden is taking climate change seriously after four years of either neglect or outright hostility.  Among the biggest contributors to greenhouse gases is the beef industry.

So for the nut cases on the right, "I want reduce greenhouse gases" translates into "I want to cancel hamburgers."

Reducing greenhouse gases does not necessarily translates into the death of an industry. Take automobiles. From increased fuel efficiency to the use of powers systems using less to no fossil fuel, there are ways for the automotive industry to survive and thrive and for people to still have cars while still reducing greenhouse gases.

Likewise, reducing greenhouse gases does not immediately translate into the extinction of hamburgers and steak. Maybe we might want to eat a little less hamburgers and steak, if not for the health of the planet, then maybe for our own personal health.

But the over-reactionary state of the Fox News led right wing media casts possible moderate adjustments in our beef consumption as some kind of cancel culture crusade against our God given right as Americans to eat a hamburger.

And I need to reiterate, Joe Biden has not said one word about hamburgers and steak.

But the steak knives are nonetheless out anyway.
