Songs For Saturday: They Might Be Giants and the B-52s

Mesopotamia is a historical region of Western Asia situated within the Tigris–Euphrates river system, in the northern part of the Fertile Crescent. Mesopotamia occupies most of present-day Iraq and Kuwait.  The historical region includes the head of the Persian Gulf and parts of present-day Iran, Syria, and Turkey.

Today Songs For Saturday presents a musical salute to Mesopotamia.

Starting with They Might Be Giants and "The Mesopotamians".

The Sumerians and Akkadians (including Assyrians and Babylonians) dominated Mesopotamia from the beginning of written history (c. 3100 BC) to the fall of Babylon in 539 BC, when it was conquered by the Achaemenid Empire. It fell to Alexander the Great in 332 BC, and after his death, it became part of the Greek Seleucid Empire. Later the Arameans dominated major parts of Mesopotamia (c. 900 BC – 270 AD).

Now our a musical salute to Mesopotamia. continues with The B-52's with a song entitled appropriately enough  "Mesopotamia".

I used to play that song back in the day on college radio.

And that is that for this week's Songs For Saturday.

Until next time, remember to be good to one another and to always keep the music alive.
