Last week in Winston Salem, there was an altercation between civilians and the police at Winton Lake Park.
Yes, guns were involved.
Thankfully no one was killed or injured.
Everyone did end of wet.
The guns in questions were water guns. You know, water pistols and super soakers, that sort of thing.
So what was the deal?
Well, it's a three year old tradition where a group of adults rents out an area of Winston Lake Park and go at each other with water guns for a day.
"We call it the 'annual adult water gun battle," Shawn Campbell said. "It's just a lot of 50-plus-year-olds getting together and cooking out and getting water gun equipment and water balloons and coming out here and having fun!"
Sounds like a lot of fun.
So how did the police get involved?
According to Campbell, "A young lady came up with her three kids, and we explained that the park was rented, but invited her to stay and the kids to play. But we told her that we were having a water battle, and I guess she got upset."
After which the police arrived.
And once the officers got the low down on what was going on decided this "water battle" thing sounded like a lot of fun and joined in the mirthful melee of water blasting fun.
I know the police do not have the best record for interacting with civilians but in this case, they made the right call.
Below is the news story about this event.
