Good-bye, Rex Tillerson

The wheels on the bus go ‘round and ‘round….

 

Rex Tillerson is out as Secretary of State, fired by Li’l Donnie Trump who wants to replace him with Ellen Pompeo. I’m not sure how playing Meredith Grey for 15 years on Grey’s Anatomy qualifies Pompeo to be Secretary of State but…

 

Whoops. I’ve just been handed this bulletin that Trump is looking to CIA Director Mike Pompeo to be the next Secretary of State. My apologies to Ellen Pompeo and to the cast and production staff of Grey’s Anatomy. 

 

Li’l Donnie made his announcement via Twitter. 

 

Mike Pompeo, Director of the CIA, will become our new Secretary of State. He will do a fantastic job! Thank you to Rex Tillerson for his service! Gina Haspel will become the new Director of the CIA, and the first woman so chosen. Congratulations to all!

As for Tillerson, Trump thinks he "will be much happier now."

 

Well, for any poor son of a bitch stuck working for Trump who finds he no longer has to work for Trump, I would say that yeah, Rex is going to be a whole hell of a lot happier now. 

 

"Rex and I have been talking about this for a long time," Trump said before boarding Marine One to head to California. While the two got along "well," said Trump, "we disagreed on things. We were not really thinking the same. With Mike [Pompeo]...we have a very similar thought process. I think it's gonna go very well."

 

So Donald Trump and Mike Pompeo have a very similar thought process? So does that mean Mike Pompeo is a senile acting moron with delusions of competence?

 

It should be noted that Mike Pompeo is one of those hard right conservatives pushing to undermine the Iran nuclear deal, doesn’t see why we can’t take North Korea in a fight, moving the U.S. embassy in Israel to Jerusalem is a very good idea and thinks Vladmir Putin’s a pretty good egg. All of which is pretty much part and parcel of every Trump stump speech and Twitter rant. All of which apparently Rex Tillerson was not on board with.

 

It is kind of telling that one of Tillerson’s last statements as Secretary of State was to condemn Russian involvement in the nerve gas attack on a former Russian spy and his daughter in Great Britain. Tillerson says something negative about Russia and almost immediately gets fired by Trump?


The White House claims Tillerson was let go on Friday to establish a new team in advance of the forthcoming meeting with North Korea. As is the case with almost everything that comes out of Trump's White House, that claim was contradicted.

In a statement from Under Secretary of State Steve Goldstein,  Tillerson "did not speak to the President and is unaware of the reason" for his firing.  It appears Tillerson learned of his firing when everyone else did, when Trump put the news out there on Twitter.
