How Is Donald Trump Still A Thing?

 A perpetual question that my wife Andrea is always asking is "How is Donald Trump still a thing?" 

I am hard pressed to answer that and I'm not sure Andrea would trust my answer if I had one.

I'm the one who told her in the Fall of 2016 that there is NO WAY that America would be STUPID enough to vote for this MORON! 

Only to discover to our horror that there was a way for America to be stupid enough to vote for that moron.

What do I know? 

What I do know is what anyone should know if they have working eyes and ears attached to at least 2 brain cells rubbing together. 

Donald Trump is an illiterate, emotionally fragile, lying, narcissistic sociopath. 

I can see that clearly. I know other people can see that clearly. 

And yet...

And yet... 

In a recent poll of likely voters in five key swing states, more respondents said they vote for Donald Trump over Joe Biden. These are states that Biden carried over Trump in 2020. 

Translating those poll numbers into potential votes for 2024, Li'l Donnie would obtain more than 300 electoral college votes and easily win the presidential election.

There does seem to be a way for America to be stupid enough to vote for this moron again?!?!  

It seems that the people surveyed in this poll have concerns about Joe Biden's age and mental acuity. 

Yeah, Biden's old. As for the whole "mental acuity" thing, yeah, sometimes he's a little slow. But more often than not, when he does speak, Biden speaks in sentences with subject, verbs and an actual point. 

Meanwhile, Trump is also old, a mere 2 years behind Biden. And as for "mental acuity", Jesus! How can we even think that Trump has any kind of edge here? 

When Donald Trump talks, he lacks any kind of coherent structure to what he says and what he says is mostly to complain about his enemies and how they are so mean to him. 

In addition to the 4 indictments and accompanying 91 felony charges, Li'l Donnie is on the hot seat the civil trial brought by the New York State Attorney General for providing false statements on his finances and the value of his properties. 

Li'l Donnie was on the witness stand on Monday and misbehaving like the petulant man-baby he is, going off on tangents that the whole case was a political witch hunt, yada yada yada, you know Trump's drill by now.  Which led to Judge Arthur Engoron making this appeal to Trump's attorney.  “Mr. Kise, can you control your client? This is not a political rally. This is a courtroom."   

Donald pulled from his sons' playbook by putting the onus on accountants that did the actual work.

He also trotted out his disclaimer defense. Trump cites the disclaimer on his financial statements that absolves his own organization of any responsibility for the accuracy of the financial reports and it's up to others to do their due diligence to confirm his actual worth. 

Judge Engoron disagrees with this assessment of the disclaimer, citing that the disclaimer isn't the cure all that Trump thinks it is.   

Trump distanced himself from a statement of financial condition from 2021,“I was so busy in the White House.  My threshold was China, Russia and keeping our country safe.”

“Just for the record, you weren’t president in 2021?” the prosecutor observed.  

“No, I wasn’t,” Trump acknowledged.

To clarify, these current proceedings are not to determine if Trump and his cronies are guilty of fraud. It has already been determined that fraud occurred.  The purpose of this trial is to determine the consequences of that fraud. 

As it is a civil trial, jail time is not on the line here but substantial fines are being considered as well as the forfeiture of Trump's right to do business in the state of New York. 

In the face of civil lawsuit that overwhelmingly shows Trump as a liar and a fraud, let's go back to Andrea's question: 

"How is Donald Trump still a thing?" 

Because what most of the country heard on Monday was not what the Trump faithful heard even though we all heard the same words.

Those of us with working eyes and ears attached to at least 2 brain cells rubbing together saw an immature, unprofessional, disrespectful blowhard acting like a total raging deranged moron.

The Trump faithful heard their lord and master assert his innocence and speak up against the forces arrayed against him. Look at Trump being a bad ass on the stand, they'll say.

Look at Trump being an asshole is what the rest will assert. 

Are there enough of us to stand counter to them?

If not, then that is "how Donald Trump still a thing."
