Andrea and I finally caught up to the premier of season 2 of FUBAR, the Netflix action comedy series starring Arnold Schwarzenegger as CIA agent Luke Brunner teaming up with his daughter Emma who is also a CIA operative.
The dynamic has shifted from season 1, moving from an antagonistic relationship (neither Luke nor Emma was aware the other was in the CIA).
Keeping their idenities as super spies from their family is also not a factor anymore. After rogue operatives exposed Luke and Emma's true identities online at the end of season 1, everyone is in hiding at a safe house in an undisclosed location.
Assassins from all over the world with an axe to grind with Luke and Emma are looking to kill them and anyone they know.
So it's off into hiding for Luke and Emma's team mates Roo, Alden and tech expert Barry along with Luke's ex wife and Emma's mother Tally, Tally's ex-fiance Donnie (Luke and Tally have hooked up again) and Emma's maybe/sort of/it's a gray area boyfriend Carter.
All stuck hiding in one single house for months.
Yeah, that sounds like fun.
Regional CIA director Dot Okoye sacrifices her life to get Intel to Luke on a new threat that Luke is uniquely qualified to handle.
Total nut job Dante Cress wants to save the world by way of pulling a Thanos: the world would be better off with fewer people.
Dante Cress wants to cull the human population through an apocalyptic nuclear war.
With everyone else still stuck in the safe house, Luke, Emma, Roo and Alden have to risk taking to the field to stop Dante Cress' insane scheme.
FUBAR still traffics in the standard "everything that can go wrong goes wrong" operations as they make shit up on the fly to extricate themselves from danger and stop the latest threat.
I think season 2 so far feels kind of clunky, adhering to it's action formula but lacking the bite of characters keeping secrets and Luke and Emmma not always quite trusting each other.
I'm OK-ish with season 2 of FUBAR so far but I don't think I'm enjoying it as much as season 1.
That is that for this week's Touchbase.
Until next time, remember to be good to one another and try to keep it down in there, would ya? I'm trying to watch TV over here.
