Donald Trump announced that the Kennedy Center would be closing as of July 4th.
The closure will be for 2 years ostensibly to make renovations to the venerated venue.
Trump said, “I’m not ripping it down. I’ll be using the steel. So we’re using the structure."
Well, seeing what he's done for the White House East Wing, well, I'm filled with confidence.
To clarify (in case the sarcasm was not clear), I'm NOT filled with confidence.
Trump has been bitching for years that the building had been allowed to decline into desrepair, without of course provding any specific examples of said decay.
He even claims the dilapidation of the building is so great, it presents a danger to attendees, again avoiding any pertinent examples of said danger.
What is in danger is the Kennedy Center's reputation as a valued and venerable venue for the best of the arts.
A lot of performers cancelling their appearances at the Center after Li'l Donnie took it over and installing a group of obsequious toadies to the Kennedy Center board.
Cancellations that escalated when the board voted to add "Donald J Trump" to the side of the building along side the name of John F. Kennedy.
Ticket sales have gone down precipitously and those who currently hold season tickets aren't happy with what's happening to their beloved Kenendy Center.
Last week, attendees expecting to attend a classical music concert were inflicted with a showing of Melania, the slickly produced propaganda piece about the nation's most boring First Lady.
Much like everything Trump touches, the Kennedy Center is turning into shit under der Führer's hamfisted ministrations.
Better to shut it down under the guise of making renovations than to deal with the humiliation of the Kenndy Center spiralling downward into failure and irrelevance.
I've been to Kennedy Center. Granted, it's been a minute.
I was a kid on a church youth group trip to Washington D.C. back in the 1970's. Jimmy Carter was President.
We saw a production for Porgy and Bess. It was my first opera and my first time going a place as opulent and important as the Kennedy Center.
I was in awe of the vast crimson interior all lit by a canopy of lights. It was certainly impressive to this small town boy.
A wonderful memory sullied by the crass and inept mismanagement of this storied venue.
Donald Trump likes to brag about being a builder. It seems to me his only skill is as a demolitionist.
The Kennedy Center is just one more thing he has set out to destroy.
