Songs For Saturday: Murray Head, The Art of Noise and Flock of Seagulls

Today's Songs For Saturday has a theme:

The 1980's were weird, man!

Let's start off with Murray Head and "One Night In Bangkok".

"One Night in Bangkok" was from the  musical Chess by Tim Rice, Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus; yes, that same Benny & Björn  who were the song writing geniuses of ABBA.

Murray Head who performs the rap is the older brother of  Anthony Head who was Rupert Giles in the TV series Buffy the Vampire Slayer and the villain in the Doctor Who episode "School Reunion".

Next up on today's "The 1980's were weird, man!" playlist is The Art of Noise with Max Headroom and "Paranoimia".

OK, what the hell was THAT?

Max Headroom was a British fictional artificial intelligence character who debuted  in 1985.

Max was portrayed by Matt Frewer and was called "the first computer-generated TV personality".

Spoiler: Max Headroom is NOT computer generated.

What you see of Max is an actor in prosthetic make-up and harsh lighting, in front of a blue screen.

Given advances in computer technology and society's immersion into the internet, it seems the concept of Max Headroom would be due for a revival.

The 1980's were weird, man!

Next up is a A Flock Of Seagulls  with "Wishing (If I Had a Photograph of You)".  I like the song well enough but it's the surreal video of random shots of 1980s women in 1980s aerobic attire that makes this weird.

With that, we end our little tour through the 1980s.

And that is that for today's Song For Saturday.

Until next time, remember to be good to one another and to always keep the music alive.
