As I wrote on Monday, the House voted 335 to 91 for a temporary funding bill to keep the government operating through Nov. 16 and also fund disaster assistance. 209 Democrats joined 126 Republicans in voting for the package.
Basically Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy actually did his job.
And he may lose his job as result of doing his job.
Well, yesterday, he did.
Basically Matt Gaetz was all "How dare Kevin McCarthy work with Democrats!" and vowed to file a motion in the House to remove McCarthy from the role of Speaker of the House.
So he did.
And it came to a vote.
And the measure passed by a vote of 216 to 210.
Let's breakdown the math on that.
All of the Democrats plus 8 Republicans made that happen.
So let me remind you of the motive of Matt Gaetz to remove Kevin McCarthy as Speaker of the House: he worked with Democrats to avoid a government shut down.
So Gaetz gets his petty revenge on McCarthy... with the help of Democrats.
Does this mean irony is still alive or is this the death of irony?
