Political Nightmares

So how am I feeling regarding the world of politics and the run up to the 2024 Presidential election? 

I feel hopeful....

...but I guard my optimism with caution. 

So far Kamala Harris continues to poll very well, pulling ahead of Donald Trump in many key swing states.   

I saw one of those "if the election were held today" articles that concluded that if the election were held today, Harris would win.

Yay! 

Except...

The election is not being held today. 

I have nightmares that so much can go wrong.  

Such as this:  

Last month, Rolling Stone reported that “in the swing states of Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, and Pennsylvania … [there are] at least 70 pro-Trump election conspiracists currently working as county election officials who have questioned the validity of elections or delayed or refused to certify results.” Of those 70, 22 have already “refused or delayed certification” in recent past elections. Nationwide, Republicans have refused to certify results at least 25 times since 2020, in eight states — the most in Georgia.

Oh shit! 

Which means even if the Kamala Harris/Tim Walz ticket wins in a landslide, there could still be fuckery afoot from the Trump cultists who have put themselves in positions of authority. 

Speaking of fuckery...

What has the big orange morally deficient, intellectually limited, sexual assaulting, empathy deprived, incoherent convicted felon been up to?

Well, Li'l Donnie sat down for an interview with Elon Musk on Twitter.*

*Seth Meyers agrees with me: Elon can call it "X" all he wants but it's still fucking Twitter.

One of them is a sociopathic ego maniac deprived of social skills.

The other is...  also. 

The interview was late starting beset by glitches (what you get for laying off half of your tech staff, Elon!) and the thing itself was just so...  sad. 

Li'l Donnie was slurring his words.  Is he OK? 

Various Republican talking heads went on cable news shows to advise Trump to focus less on insulting Kamala Harris's race, sex and appearance more on substantive issues like the economy.

Well isn't that special? They think 78 year old Donald Trump can change who he is and stay on a policy specific message and NOT engage in insults.  

Later Trump showed up in North Carolina to deliver an economic policy speech.  We know it was supposed to be an an economic policy speech because Li'l Donnie told us so.  "They say I'm supposed to talk about the economy or something" and then kept veering off to insult Kamala Harris's race, sex and appearance.  

Li'l Donnie was irked that Kamala got a Time magazine cover and he didn't. Wah! Wah! Wah!  

A few days later Kamala Harris was also in North Carolina where she did give an economic policy speech.  She wants to help the middle class not get screwed over by inflation because companies are charging too much for their shit.  

Meanwhile, Trump was busy insulting the military.  

Li'l Donnie was hosting some event at his Bedminster NJ club with billionaire Trump supporter Miriam Adelson in attendance. While he was in the White House, Trump awarded her the Presidential Medal of Freedom.  

So Trump mentions this and says the Presidential Medal of Freedom is equal to the Congressional Medal of Honor which is awarded to military members who are wounded or killed in combat in defense of their fellow soldiers.  

Then Trump adds that the Presidential Medal of Freedom is BETTER because you don't have to get shot or killed to get it.

Which ticked off a lot of veterans.   

Also Li'l Donnie forgot what state he was.  He returned to Pennsylvania (you know, the state he nearly got shot in) for a rally where he identified the state as North Carolina.   

Donald Trump is a fucking moron and I am so glad Kamala Harris is leading him in the polls but in some states, that lead is close and I'm thinking, why? My God, WHY? 

It's a nightmare! 

And here's another reason I can't quite relax just yet. 

I was looking at this old post from Thursday, August 18 2016:

Right now, Hillary Clinton is leading Donald Trump in virtually every poll both nationally and individual states and not just leading but leading by a whole hell of a lot. Those are some damn fine poll numbers. 

And I don't need to remind you of the nightmare that descended upon us that November.

So how do I feel?

I feel hopeful but I guard my optimism with caution.

I feel hopeful but somehow still scared to death!
