It was a tragedy that rocked the entertainment world and beyond.
Rob Reiner and his wife Michele had been murdered.
No matter one's thoughts about his body of work or his political activism, the basic decent human reaction to such a horrible act of violence is shock and grief and empathy for those lives lost and those impacted by that loss.
Or one could go in a totally different direction.
Take it way, Donnie J!
“A very sad thing happened last night in Hollywood. Rob Reiner, a tortured and struggling, but once very talented movie director and comedy star, has passed away, together with his wife, Michele, reportedly due to the anger he caused others through his massive, unyielding, and incurable affliction with a mind crippling disease known as TRUMP DERANGEMENT SYNDROME, sometimes referred to as TDS. He was known to have driven people CRAZY by his raging obsession of President Donald J. Trump, with his obvious paranoia reaching new heights as the Trump Administration surpassed all goals and expectations of greatness, and with the Golden Age of America upon us, perhaps like never before. May Rob and Michele rest in peace!”
I'm going to put on my Karoline Leavitt hat on and spin this in her own obsequeious style.
Reporter: "Karoline, do you have any comment on the President's harsh rhetoric about Rob Reiner?"
Karoline: "I'm not sure what you mean by harsh. The President very eloquently expressed that what occured was sad and solemnly wished that Reiners would rest in peace."
Reporter: "But what about all those other things he said?"
Karoline: "What the President was saying and I shouldn't have to point this out to you is that it's a shame that Rob and Michele Reiner are dead and will not get to witness the Great Golden Age of America that only our great President Donald J. Trump could bring about."
Reporter: "But the President said the Reiners' death was their own fault."
Karoline: "The President never utters the words 'their own fault' and you are trafficing in fake news and perhaps your Trump Derangement Syndrome."
It really depresses me how it easy it is to channel Karoline Leavitt.
Meanwhile...
The LAPD arrested Rob's son for the murder of Rob and Michele. Nick has a history of drug abuse and mental health problems.
Meanwhile, a variety of Republicans skittered out of their hidey-holes to.... NOT defend Trump?
Thomas Massie: “Regardless of how you felt about Rob Reiner, this is inappropriate and disrespectful discourse about a man who was just brutally murdered. I guess my elected GOP colleagues, the VP, and White House staff will just ignore it because they’re afraid? I challenge anyone to defend it!"
Stephanie Bice: “We should be lifting the family up in prayer, not making this about politics."
Mike Lawler: “This statement is wrong. It’s a horrible tragedy that should engender sympathy and compassion from everyone in our country, period.”
Jenna Ellis, who worked as an attorney for Trump’s 2020 campaign: “The Right uniformly condemned political and celebratory responses to Charlie Kirk’s death. This is a horrible example from Trump (and surprising considering the two attempts on his own life) and should be condemned by everyone with any decency.”
Marjorie Taylor Greene: “This is a family tragedy, not about politics or political enemies. Many families deal with a family member with drug addiction and mental health issues. It’s incredibly difficult and should be met with empathy especially when it ends in murder.”
With so many people from his own party voicing their objections to his rhetoric, perhaps Donald Trump took a moment to reflect on his words and reconsider what...
Oh fuck NO!
Li'l Donnie doubled down.
“Well, I wasn’t a fan of his at all. He was a deranged person, as far as Trump is concerned, He said ― he liked ― he knew it was false. In fact, it’s the exact opposite, that I was a friend of Russia, controlled by Russia. You know, the Russia hoax. He was one of the people behind it. I think he hurt himself in – career-wise. He became like a deranged person, Trump derangement syndrome. So I was not a fan of Rob Reiner at all in any way, shape or form. I thought he was very bad for our country."
Donald Trump not only sucks at pretending to be a President.
He can't even summon up the common decency to pretend to be fucking human.
