Well, this sucks!
Rob Reiner (78) and his wife Michele (68) are dead.
They were found stabbed to death in their Brentwood home in Los Angeles.
Rob was the son of comic legend Carl Reiner who went on the forge his own path in Hollywood in television and film.
After his break-out role as Michael "Meathead" Stivic in All In the Family, Rob Reiner began a prolific career as a film director of some of the most acclaimed and iconic movies of the late 20th century.
- This Is Spinal Tap (1984)
- Stand By Me (1986)
- The Princess Bride (1987)
- When Harry Met Sally (1989)
- Misery (1990)
- A Few Good Men (1992)
- The American President (1995)
Rob's production company Castle Rock also brought us TV's Seinfeld and the classic film The Shawshank Redemption.
Reiner was a very passionate Democrat activist.
- He co-founded the American Foundation for Equal Rights, challenging California’s ban on same-sex marriage, Proposition 8.
- He chaired the campaign for Prop 10, a California initiative to fund early childhood development services with a tax on tobacco products.
- Reiner was also a very vocal critic of Donald Trump.
As I write this, little is known of the details surrounding the deaths of Rob and Michelle Reiner. Just the grisly knowledge they died horrifically painful and violent deaths.
In addition to his accomplishments in Hollywood, Rob Reiner was universally known as a genuinely nice guy, affable and joyous.
I can only throw up my hands and say again, "Well, this sucks!"
This loss is a particularly hard blow to process.
