Racism With a Side Order of Racism

As I wrote here last week, Donald Trump is hankering for "some good ol' fashioned racism".

Li'l Donnie trotted out some of that "good ol' fashioned racism" at a rally last week.

But first, some back story...

Back on January 11, 2018, in a meeting about immigration with Congressional leaders, Donald Trump reportedly called nations in Africa “shitholes”.

At the time, Democratic Sen. Dick Durbin reported that Trump was commenting on immigration from Africa when he said, “‘Those shitholes send us the people that they don’t want. He repeated that. He didn’t say that just one time.”

Li'l Donnie immediately took to social media to deny he said anything of the sort.

Even if it sounded exactly like the sort of thing he would say.

Other  Republicans clutching their pearls rushed to Trump's defense. How DARE the Democrats accuse Donald Trump of using such language.

Even if it sounded exactly like the sort of thing he would say.

Which brings us to December 9, 2025.

While speaking at a rally in Pennsylvannia, the following occurred.

Trump: "I’ve also announced a permanent pause on Third World migration, including from hellholes like Afghanistan, Haiti, Somalia and many other countries."

Audience member: "Shithole!"

Trump: "I didn’t say shithole, you did."

Audience laughs.

Trump:  "Remember, I said that to the senators. They came in, the Democrats. They wanted to be bipartisan. So, they came in, and they said this is totally off the record. Nothing mentioned here. We wanted to be honest, because our country was going to hell, and we had a meeting and I say, “why is it we only take people from shithole countries,” right? Why can’t we have some people from Norway, Sweden — just a few — let us have a few, from Denmark. Do you mind sending us a few people? Send us some nice people, do you mind? But we always take people from Somalia, places that are a disaster, right? Filthy, dirty, disgusting, ridden with crime."

Why that sounded exactly like the sort of thing he DID say.

A few things to unpack.

That pause on migration does include one notable exception: white farmers from South Africa.

Li'l Donnie bought into the frequently disputed and refuted story that white farmers in post-Apartheid South Africa are being subjected to some kind of systemic execution and erasure from South African society with tales of horrible murders and mass graves enraging white supremacists all over the world.

Yes, South Africa has had problems with crime including an elevated murder rate and in that wave of murders, some white farmers have been caught in the unfortunate mix of victims. But there is zero viable evidence that white farmers are being subjected to genocide in South Africa.

"Zero viable evidence" has never stopped Donald Trump from believing what he wants to believe and white people being singled out for murder in a black run country in Africa makes sense to him and his world view.  Evidence shmevidence! Who needs it?

Trump whines about why Norway, Sweden or Denmark (mostly white countries) can't send us some people.  Dear me, how can we convince people to come to America and give up:

  • free health care
  • free child care
  • free universities
  • freedom from gun violence
  • job security

Also there's Trump's mindset that immigrants are being sent as opposed to escaping.

Allowing for the reality that yes, there are shithole countries and people want to leave them for a chance for a better life in a country that is not a shithole.

Which used to be the United States of America before Donald Trump got his tiny hands on it.

Meanwhile, der Führer got in some more public racism at a Christmas Congressional Ball held at the White House last week where Donald Trump took the joyous holiday occasion to insult Somali refugees, many who are legal U.S. citizens.

This was in follow up to Trump ordering an immigration crackdown on the Somali community in Minnesota, a community that is here legally.

A crackdown that has arrested at least one U.S. citizen who looked "Somali".
