The LEGO Move 2: The Second Part
So my family ventured forth from the Fortress of Ineptitude to go see The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part. It's hard to contemplate that it's been five years since the original LEGO movie unexpectedly charm us with with its humor.
Five years have also passed for the residents of Bricksburg which has fallen into a dystopian heckscape known as Apocalypseburg. Life here is tough and hard and the people who live there have become tough and hard.
Except for Emmet Brickowski who kicks off every morning buying coffee and jamming to "Everything is Awesome".
This kind of irks Lucy who is getting in some quality time with grade A grim brooding and wished Emmet would grow the heck up. He needs to realize that life is tough and hard and he needs to become tough and hard.
Then invaders attack and Lucy and 4 others are abducted to a far off world in the mysterious Systar System.
Emmet transforms his house into a space ship and heads off in pursuit. Oh yeah! Emmet's ready to be tough and hard! He's going to totally save the day and...
Crash his spaceship.
Well, uh oh!
But there's help in the form of REX DANGERVEST, a space travelling raptor training archeologist who might be able to help Emmet become the tough and hard warrior he needs to be to rescue his friends.
Meanwhile in the Systar System, Lucy and the others are meeting some strange creatures there, including talking candy, an attractive non-threatening teenage vampire and a shape-shifting queen who's totally not at all evil. Nope, definitely not.
While Lucy's companions are giving in to the joyous charms of this most unusual place (even Batman, for crying out loud), Lucy herself is not having any of it. She's going to get to the bottom of the deep, dark sinister secrets of the Systar System or else.
I felt like the beginning of the movie lurched a bit, straining to shift gears to get things moving. But eventually the movie finds its groove and its a wild ride all the way to the end. This is a very fun movie. Near the end, it almost pulls of a Toy Story 3 level of angst over the fate of our LEGO pals, a level of emotional involvement I was not expecting.
The voice acting is excellent with Chris Pratt as the voices of both Emmet Brickowski and Rex Dangervest. Notice all the different attributes Rex possesses reflects an amalgamation of all of Chris's movie roles in Guardians of the Galaxy, Jurassic World and more.
There's a lot of Micheal Shur-centric casting in this movie. Besides Pratt, we also have Nick Offerman from Parks and Recreation. From Brooklyn Nine Nine, we have voice work from Stephanie Beatriz as well as music soundtrack stuff from Lonely Island featuring Andy Samberg. And from The Good Place, it's Judge Hydrogen herself, Maya Rudolph.
Will Arnett continues to impress as the best Batman ever!
The LEGO Move 2: The Second Part is an enjoyable movie with a clever writing, snappy visuals, first rate voice acting and thumping soundtrack.
About the music, be warned: there is this song that's gonna get stuck inside your head.
The title of that song is....
This Song's Gonna Get Stuck Inside Your Head
Just for fun, here are the lyrics!
This song's gonna get stuck inside your
This song's gonna get stuck inside your
This song's gonna get stuck inside your head
This song's gonna get stuck inside your
This song's gonna get stuck inside your
This song's gonna get stuck inside your head
This song's gonna get stuck inside your
This song's gonna get stuck inside your
This song's gonna get stuck inside your head
Well it's so catchy catchy, it's such a catchy song
Gonna make you happy happy
Don't try to fight it, sing along
This song's gonna get stuck inside your
This song's gonna get stuck inside your
This song's gonna get stuck inside your head
This song’s gonna get stuck inside you
Run but you can’t hide, I’ll find you
Shine so bright, my bling bling blind
You Sing this song, I must remind you
Everybody roll out
Scream and they shout
Everybody in the house
Got it coming from their mouth
Wait a minute, let me get ‘em
Can’t help the rhythm, stuck in your system
I’m going to the top
Everybody going to the top
Everybody head gonna rock
Everybody say don’t stop
Everybody say don’t stop, Ooh!
This song's gonna get stuck inside your
This song's gonna get stuck inside your
This song's gonna get stuck inside your head
This song's gonna get stuck inside your
This song's gonna get stuck inside your
This song's gonna get stuck inside your head
Well it's so catchy catchy, it's such a catchy song
Gonna make you happy happy
Don't try to fight it, sing along
This song's gonna get stuck inside your
This song's gonna get stuck inside your
This song's gonna get stuck inside your head
There's nothing that you can do
There's nothing that you can say
This song is stuck on replay
You' better sing it every single day
From the mornin' an' through the night
I got 'em movin' from left to right
An' if you wanna know who's to blame
Yeah it's me stuck in their brain
Like a permanent stain an' it won't change
Even if you go insane
This song is now in your brain
An' in your brain it will remain!
This song is now stuck inside your
This song is now stuck inside your
This song is now stuck inside your head
This song is now stuck inside your
This song is now stuck inside your
This song is now stuck inside your head
'Cos it's so catchy catchy, it's such a catchy song
Gonna make you happy happy
Don't try to fight it, sing along
This song's gonna get stuck inside your
This song's gonna get stuck inside your
This song's gonna get stuck inside your head
This song's gonna get stuck inside your
This song's gonna get stuck inside your
This song's gonna get stuck inside your head
'Bye, y'all! Remember to be good to one another.
And....
This song's gonna get stuck inside your
This song's gonna get stuck inside your
This song's gonna get stuck inside your head
