Today is the 3rd of the November. In celebration of it being the 3rd of the month, today's post will begin with a monologue from the denouement of one of the classic works of cinema in the 21st century, The SpongeBob Squarepants Movie.
And now, I present.... Mr. Squarepants.
SpongeBob: I guess you're right, Plankton. I am just a kid. And you know, I've been through a lot in the last six days, five minutes, twenty-seven-and-a-half seconds, and if I've learned anything during that time, it's that you are who you are. And no amount of mermaid magic, or managerial promotion, or some other third thing can make me any more than what I really am inside: a kid.
"Or some other third thing."
I have to admit I have engaged that turn of a phrase on several occasions.
Everyone knows if you want to make a case for or against something, you need to provide at least three points to support your position.
But sometimes memory or imagination or ...some other third thing fails me. I'm in the middle of making a case to Andrea why we shouldn't go to some restaurant she wants to go to.
"It's too loud, too expensive and... and... and some other third thing."
I do try to not make a habit of relying on "some other third thing" and actually articulate some actual 3rd point.
Donald Trump has his own variant: "And other things."
Even Li'l Donnie knows the importance of making a case for or against something, you need make multiple points to support his position.
But usually Trump can only cite ONE thing.
Trump will describe someone has a really bad person for one reason and then add "and other things.:
Trump will try to convince people he's busy by citing one thing he did and then adding "and other things."
I try to at least come up with two things before using my fall back of "some other third thing".
Well, that's the end of today's post. It's the end because I've said I wanted to say, I have other things to do and...
Some other third thing.
