It's time for another Tuesday TV Touchbase as I take a look at some of the stuff my wife Andrea and I are watching here at the Fortress of Ineptitude.
Supergirl
Oh.
My. God!
It’s
out there, people! Kara knows how Lena Luthor really feels about her. In a heart
wrenching scene, Lena breaks down her hurt at being betrayed by Kara Danvers
keeping her identity as Supergirl a secret. Lena is hurt, damn it! And she will
make sure Kara knows how that feels.
The
look on Supergirl’s face as Lena spells out her manifesto of pain makes it clear
that Lena has succeeded in that regard. But Lena isn’t done giving out the hurt,
not by a long shot.
Knowing
how much Kara agonized over keeping this secret from Lena and trying to find the
right way to tell her, it’s especially hard to see Lena treat Kara this way.
One
might argue how especially out of character it might be. Since her first
appearance in season 2, Lena has invested a lot of effort in not being her brother.
But there has always been a brutal edge to her personality, a willingness to
push past ethical limits as it has suited her. Lena, when pushed, descending
into depths of rage like her brother Lex is not too far gone.
Batwoman
Speaking
of betrayal, will Sophie ever NOT stop betraying Kate’s trust?
In
the back story, Kate and Sophie were engaged in a lesbian relationship in a
military academy that still frowns on such things. Kate and Sophie agreed to
fight the academy together.
Kate
told them where to shove their backward views. Sophie signed a letter
renouncing her lesbian relationship and told Kate she didn’t love her.
No,
Sophie knows Kate is Batwoman and she goes and blabs it to Kate’s dad, Jacob
Kane.
Granted,
Sophie thought this action would save Kate’s life. There’s an assassin with a
gun than can pierce the Bat-suit. But still, Sophie once again violates Kate’s
trust.
Except,
Sophie now isn’t sure that Kate is Batwoman?
With
some help from a visiting Julia Pennyworth, Batwoman and Kate both appear in
front of Sophie at the same time.
(Neat
call back to the 1960’s Batman TV show when Alfred would dress as Batman whenever
Batman and Bruce Wayne had to appear somewhere at the same time.)
Also,
it appears, Sophie did not tell Jacob Kane. Well, she thought he did. But Jacob,
it turns out, is Mouse, Alice’s master of disguise.
Oh,
what a tangled web….
Jeopardy
James
Holzhauer lays the smacketh down!
In
the Tournament of Champions, James Holzhauer wound up in competition with Emma
Boettcher, the young librarian who ended James’ previous run at 32 games.
Emma
played strongly. She knew her stuff and remained competitive but James built a
solid lead at the end of game one. Emma gained ground to challenge James in
game two but the lead was too unsurmountable. And James wins the Tournament of
Champions.
But
in the ancient lore of Jeopardy, who is the GOAT? We will find out in January
with a Greatest Off All Time match in prime time hosted by Alex Trebek (even
while still fighting cancer) with James Holzhauer going up against Ken Jennings
and Brad Rutter.
And
that’s just some of the TV Andrea and I are watching at the Fortress of Ineptitude.
More
on some other shows we’re watching like The Good Place, Stumptown and The Crown
in a future TV Touchbase.
