Domestic Terror and Trump's Blame Game

Well, no sooner do I bring back this bad boy of a blog that someone goes and does something evil.

And Trump goes and does something stupid.

Well, fuck.

Sigh.

Where to start?

Let’s start somewhere Trump is unaccustomed, with some facts.

Eight people were killed and 11 others were seriously injured when Sayfullo Habibullaevic Saipov, 29, a native of Uzbekistan who came to the United States in 2010, drove a truck onto a bike path near the West Side Highway on Tuesday afternoon. Saipov crashed the truck into a school bus, got out with two imitation firearms and shouted "Allahu Akbar," Arabic for "God is Great" before he was shot and wounded by police.   A  note inside the truck translates to "ISIS Lives Forever”.

Officials said the attacker is an immigrant from Uzbekistan who came to the U.S. legally in 2010.  Saipov is reported to have come in to the US through the Diversity Immigrant Visa Program, which covers immigrants from countries with low rates of immigration to the U.S.

In the face of a terror attack, Trump does what he does best, blither like an idiot on Twitter.

OK, manage that queasiness in your gut as we wade into Li’l Donnie’s tweets.

"We must not allow ISIS to return, or enter, our country after defeating them in the Middle East and elsewhere. Enough!"

OK, Saipov has been here since 2010 before ISIS was a thing. Saipov did not enter the country or return to it to commit this cowardly act of terrorism; he was already here. AND if he wasn’t already here, Uzbekistan isn't on the list of countries covered under Trump's Muslim travel ban.

Trump tweeted that the attacker “came into our country through what is called the 'Diversity Visa Lottery Program,' a Chuck Schumer beauty."

The Diversity Immigrant Visa Program was created and signed into law back in 1990. Was Chuck even in office then? Well, yes, he was. He authored the legislation.  And it was a bi-partisan bill signed into law by a Republican President, George H. W. Bush.

"We are fighting hard for Merit Based immigration, no more Democrat Lottery Systems. We must get MUCH tougher (and smarter)."

I repeat: it was a bi-partisan bill signed into law by a Republican President, George H. W. Bush.

Furthermore, Sen. Chuck Schumer’s most recent connection to the Diversity Immigrant Visa Program was an attempt to kill it.

Schumer was among a group of eight Republican and Democratic senators who proposed eliminating the diversity visa program three years ago as part of a broader bipartisan bill to overhaul U.S. immigration laws.  The immigration bill ultimately failed in the GOP-led House after passing the Senate in June 2013.

The  efforts of Schumer and other bi-partisan Senators to discontinue the Diversity Immigrant Visa Program were undone by a Republican lead House.

I don’t thinks it’s helpful to get into a blame-game about who did what that lead to Saipov getting into this country 7 years ago. But as the kids say on the playground, “He started it.”

Trump is so scared that something might be pinned on him that his first instinct is to deflect away from himself and find someone to blame, even if the blame doesn’t fit and no one was looking at Trump anyway. Trump's motto has President is "The buck stops here over there."

Besides, Trump never misses a chance to throw some meat to the brain dead base that still supports him. Trump’s base hears “A Democrat let in a terrorist” and that’s all they’ll hear and they will believe it.

Schumer responded to Trump’s baseless claims that Trump is "politicizing and dividing America, which he always seems to do at times of national tragedy." Schumer says the president should focus "on the real solution — anti-terrorism funding" — an area that Schumer says Trump has proposed cutting in his most recent budget.

Chuck Schumer says in a statement that "I have always believed and continue to believe that immigration is good for America."

Schumer commented that  Trump is "politicizing and dividing America, which he always seems to do at times of national tragedy."

The orange moron is consistent.

Schumer also suggested  the president should focus "on the real solution — anti-terrorism funding" — an area that Schumer says Trump has proposed cutting in his most recent budget.

Trump is looking to CUT anti-terrorism funding? Really? If so, I’m not surprised.  I would bet he has no clue about that cut which is a fair assumption because 1) budget cuts were approached with a machete and 2)  Trump as a matter of course never has a clue.

Damn, Trump is such a moron.

Saipov was captured alive. Usually these cowards wind up dead so we have to piece together after the fact what went wrong. Maybe Saipov can be convinced (I’m not picky how that’ll be done) to give us some insight to the timeline of what drove him to take this terrible action. It is information that may be useful in improving anti-terrorism measures.

Let’s keep in mind the victims of this cowardly attack and their families. If you have prayers, pray if you got ‘em. And kudos to everyone who came to the aid of the victims and a special shout out to the NYPD for their quick and effective capture of Saipov.

Thank you for your time and remember to be good to one another.
