Captain Marvel Vs. Assholes
It seems Marvel's newest entry into their cinematic universe, Captain Marvel, is earning negative reviews on Rotten Tomatoes.
Which is a very odd thing to report as the movie hasn't come out yet.
So what gives?
In a word... assholes.
A large number of angry and negative comments from a predominately male group seems to have taken issue with star Brie Larson's "hostility towards white men".
Say what now?
OK, here is the offensive attack on white men:
In an interview with Marie Claire, conducted by Keah Brown, the Captain Marvel star was asked why she had specifically requested her interviewer and stated, "about a year ago, I started paying attention to what my press days looked like and the critics reviewing movies, and noticed it appeared to be overwhelmingly white male [...] so, I spoke to Dr Stacy Smith at the USC Annenberg Inclusion Initiative, who put together a study to confirm that. Moving forward, I decided to make sure my press days were more inclusive."
Yeah, you saw where Brie Larson stated her hatred for white men, right?
You did?
No, you didn't because that's not what she said. Larson wants to a more diverse and more inclusive range of viewpoints in the entertainment press. There is no attack on white men. Just a desire to see more women and people of color with opportunities to work and be recognized within the industry.
The negative comments posted on Rotten Tomatoes reflects misogynist trolling at its worst. A strong female actor portraying a powerful female super hero is just a bit more than some fragile male egos can take.
Or to put it simply...
They are assholes.
