A Reasonable Assumption At the Time

The independent Quinnipiac University National Poll finds Li'l Donnie losing to 6 different Democratic candidates for President.

Vice President Joseph Biden ahead of Trump, 53 - 40%
Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders over Trump 51 - 42%
California Sen. Kamala Harris ahead of Trump 49 - 41%
Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren tops Trump 49 - 42%
South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg edges Trump 47 - 42%
New Jersey Sen. Cory Booker over Trump 47 - 42%

Well, that's encouraging news for anyone who wants to see this fucking moron defeated in 2020.

But let's not get ahead of ourselves.

As a word of caution, I take you back to a winter's night 4 years ago.

For the cold open sketch for Saturday Night Live on December 19, 2015, Hillary Clinton (Kate McKinnon) is getting ready for bed when she is visited by a Spirit of Christmas Past: it’s Hillary Clinton (Amy Poehler)!

Hillary/Amy worries if the future will be different. Will she get to be President of the United States this time or will she fall short again? Hillary/Kate says, “Guess who’s currently leading the polls for the Republicans? Donald Trump!”

Clutching each other’s arms, Hillary/Amy and Hillary/Kate jump up and down, squealing with delight. “We’re gonna be President! We’re gonna be President! We’re gonna be President!”

Well, I guess it seemed like a reasonable assumption at the time.

For anyone with eyes and a brain, Donald Trump was extremely unsuited to be President.  Lacking in intelligence and basic human empathy, relying on a specious reputation as an alleged  successful, self made billionaire business man, there was no way…

Then November 2016 happened and we know the rest.

It's a long way to November 2020 and anything can happen, good or horribly wrong.
