It’s Christmas TIME!

Hi there! Welcome to I’m So Glad My Suffering Amuses You, a gingerbread cookie blog in a Christmas dinner feast internet!

And today is Christmas Day! I think that regardless of one’s faith or religious affiliation, the ideal of Christmas carries beyond the boundaries of our respective beliefs.

The hope for a better world, the aspiration that we can be better people, that love and compassion is a potent force, that good can prevail, the triumph of light over darkness.

I hope that whoever you are, whatever your background and your own personal faith, this day finds you well and the spirit of it can carry you out of whatever darkness that threatens to overtake you.

The thing is there is this presumption that everybody’s all in for Christmas and that’s not always the case.

I heard a black comedian tell how he was cheated out of Christmas presents when his father converted to the Muslim Brotherhood. The comedian’s grandmother was genuinely confused by this turn of events. “What do you mean the boy ain’t gonna have no Christmas? It’s Christmas TIME!”

And that does seem to be the consensus of a lot of people. It doesn’t matter if you’re Jewish, Muslim, Hindu, Aetheist, Druid, whatever. Put up a damn tree, lay some debt on that credit card because no matter what you may believe, it’s Christmas TIME!

We can't just presume that everybody just accepts that it's Christmas TIME!

The ideals of Christmas, of peace, hope and charity, can be felt by everyone regardless of their faith but we can't force Christmas down the throats of everyone.

Make your case for Christmas, for the best it can be, for the ideals that are associated with the holidays. Beyond the mass consumerism and the excessive decorating, what is in fact the true meaning of Christmas.

Christians will point to the birth of Jesus Christ as the true meaning of Christmas but it goes beyond that.

The true meaning of Christmas is the triumph of light over darkness, of hope over despair.

Make no mistake, this triumph is not guaranteed but Christmas gives reaching that triumph of better chance

Don't just say it but live it and show it that there really is hope for a better world, that we can be better people, that love and compassion is a potent force, that good can prevail.

No matter who you are and what you believe in, I wish in a Merry Christmas in the hope that you have a better chance for victory of humanity's better nature over it's worst.
