Sorry to sound so morose but this passing definitely comes under the heading of "the wrong people keep dying".
Two days ago, we got the news that Olivia Newton-John had died at the age of 73.
Olivia was a sweet person with the most beautiful singing voice and by all accounts a very kind and generous spirit.
She captivated movie audiences with her roles in the hit adaption of the musical Grease and her role as a muse in the cult classic Xanadu.
Here is a live performance at the Sydney Opera House of Olivia Newton-John singing the theme from Xanadu.
Xanadu was an odd duck of a movie combining disco, roller skating and mystic fantasy. And it brought Gene Kelly out of retirement for one more film role. Performing "Whenever You're Away From Me" here is Olivia Newton John paired with Gene Kelly.
We gotta have something from Grease for this post and there is no better showcase for Olivia Newton-John's golden voice than "Hopelessly Devoted to You".
And here is "Magic", one of my favorite songs by Olivia Newton-John.
Let's wrap up today's post with a classic 1970's "mellow gold" entry which was a ubiquitous presence on Top 40 radio. Here is Olivia Newton-John with "Have You Never Been Mellow".
These five music selections just begin to show the talents of this lovely and gifted woman.
