Time to play a game: Good Thing or Bad Thing?
Many soldiers, sailors and airmen are suffering from and dying from various illnesses including cancer.
Good Thing or Bad Thing?
OK, I think we can all agree that it does sound like a bad thing. And it gets worse.
The source of this epidemic of cancer and associated illnesses are directly attributable to "burn pits" where waste is disposed of in combat zones by burning. The smoldering wastes from these pits caused military personnel to become sick and die.
Good Thing or Bad Thing?
So members of the military are getting fucked over by the military. Bad thing? Yep! Bad thing!
Well at least Congress realized, "Oh shit! We should do something about this and actually help some people!" And thus was born the PACT Act, which would allow the men and women afflicted by diseases caused by the burn pits to be covered by the Veterans Affairs health care system.
Good Thing or Bad Thing?
OK, maybe they got smart too late to help some people but I suppose better late than never so let's go with Good Thing?
Except...
Senate Republicans joined forces to block passage of the PACT Act, cutting off hundreds of sick and dying veterans from much needed care.
Good Thing or Bad Thing?
Well, I'm thinking Bad Thing but the Senate Republicans seemed to have an alternative view.
Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) was captured on video Thursday fist-bumping Sen. Steve Daines (R-Mont.) shortly after Republicans blocked the PACT Act.
Good Thing or Bad Thing?
So if you're Ted Cruz, it's a... Good Thing?
Let's take a moment to remind everyone of the official position of I'm So Glad My Suffering Amuses You regarding Ted Cruz:
TED CRUZ IS A LYING FUCK BASTARD!
For all members of the staff and management of I'm So Glad My Suffering Amuses You, this is NOT a negotiable position.
Now you might be wondering why Republicans, a party that is usually so rah-rah-rah for military support so happy to be fucking over sick and dying veterans?
Well, it seems earlier in the week, the Democrats were able to pass a $740 billion package to invest in climate change measures and health care, paid for with increased taxes on the wealthy.
Republicans were not happy about that.
Climate change? No!
Health care? Hell no!
Taxes on the wealthy? OH FUCKING HELL NO!
Senate Republicans unable to stop passage of this bill decided to take their revenge on something else.
So the PACT Act had die.
That's right, sick and dying veterans will continue to suffer because Republicans are in a hissy of a snit of a fit that Democrats won something for climate change and health care and paid for it with a tax increase on the wealthy.
An act of petty retribution that Ted Cruz joyously celebrated on the Senate floor with a congratulatory fist bump.
Once more, let me remind you...
TED CRUZ IS A LYING FUCK BASTARD!
Let me turn the rest of this post over to Jon Stewart:
“The most despicable part of this whole thing is watching on the Senate floor Ted Cruz fist-bumping, and then [the Republicans] patting each other on the back when they blocked this bill. They celebrated their victory over veterans with cancer. Way to go, guys! You finally handed it to ‘big veteran with cancer.’ Well done!”
And a final word from the editorial staff of I'm So Glad My Suffering Amuses You!
