Last week, I wrote about how Senate Republicans blocked passage of a bill designed to help military veterans dying from cancer and celebrated this "victory" with fist bumps on the Senate floor.
In the interesting of completeness, this bill did finally pass last week.
The images of Senate Republicans fist bumping for their victory over helping military veterans dying from cancer was a bit much to take for even a party that knows no boundaries of what constitutes shame.
Now, to be fair, Senate Republicans were not so much fist bumping for their victory over helping military veterans dying from cancer as they were over screwing over Democrats.
Democrats pissed off Republicans over some other matter not at all related to military veterans dying from cancer. But if some military veterans dying from cancer needed to suffer in order to score political points against a rival party, well, as Sen. Pat Toomey wrote, those veterans knew the risk when they signed up to serve in the military.
Well, yeah, they knew the risks of being shot by the enemy on the battlefield. They didn't sign up for the risk of being fucked over by their own government.
One of those Senators was Josh Hawley who originally votd down the military health bill was suddenly concerned with the welfare of veterans when he voted against admitting Sweden and Finland into NATO.
Sucking hard on Donald Trump's "America First" teat, one of Hawley's concerns was putting more American troops in harm's way of an expanded NATO.
But mostly it was in service to pushing some good old fashioned Trumpian Chinese racism.
Hawley's view is we don't need to add extra resources to an expanded NATO to ward off a Russian threat when the real threat is China.
Now let me take a minute here: If anyone doesn't think that China's government is not up to some sketchy shit, they have their heads firmly lodged up their respective rectums.
But meanwhile, Russia is up to some real and very aggressive shit on Europe's border (yes, Russia's attacks on Ukraine are still a thing) and anyone (Josh Hawley) who doesn't think that an expanded and strenghthened NATO is a good thing in the face of such obviously real and very aggressive shit has their (Josh Hawley's) head shoved up their own ass as well.
A belligerent and unchecked Russia is also giving China free rein to pull their sketchy shit.
Hawley has also been in opposition to aid to Ukraine.
Of course, Hawley's position is in lock step with certain Republicans' inexplicable pro-Russian stance in recent years. I'm guessing it owes a lot to Russians looking like "regular" white Americans and the Chinese, well, don't.
