In Los Angeles, American citizens have expressed their... let's say misgivings on cruel, viscious militarizes raids by ICE against undocumented immigrants and have come out in protest against these raids.
There have been some incidents of violence with rocks thrown and fires set. Nothing so untenable that local authorities could not contend with.
Except Donald Trump declares the entire city of Los Angeles is on fire and that the city's mayor and California's governor are too scared to do anything about and sent in the National Guard.
Which only increased the ire and anger of the citizens who were already pissed off by ICE's heavy handed tactics.
So Trump sent in MORE National Guard.
Also Marines were sent in as well.
This is typical of Trump's cowardly bullying where he thinks the best answer to a fire is to add more gasoline. It's a move full of false bravado and bluster designed to make him look strong and tough against a terrible crisis of his own creation.
All that military mobilization to Los Angeles and when they get there, well, there's really not much for them to do.
Protests aside, life in the city goes on normally.
Besides these military forces might be needed elsewhere on June 14th.
That's the day of the big military parade in Washington DC to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the U.S. Army.
And by what can only be a staggeringly coincidental happenstance, Donald Trump's birthday.
Legendary MAD Magazine creators John Ficarra and Sam Viviano shared with the Albany Sun Times their "invitation" to this much anticipated event.
The problem with parodies about Trump and his enabling minions is that they do not stray too much from what is really going on. Reality and parody tend to blur together in the world of Trump.
That invitation almost seemed real.
A parade of military troops and weapons ostensibly in celebration of a single autocratic leader?
Straight out of the Totally Total Totalitarianism playbook.
