Don't Worry: We're All Gonna Die Anyway!

Last week, Sen. Joni Ernst (R-Iowa) faced angry constituents at a town hall in Parkersburg, Iowa, upset with cuts in medical care and food assistance with one woman in the crowd yelling, “People will die!”

Ernst replied, “People are not ― well, we all are going to die. So, for heaven’s sakes, folks.”

So Ernst released a video to apologize.

Really?

No.  Not really.

“Hello everyone, I would like to take this opportunity to sincerely apologize for a statement that I made yesterday at my town hall."

OK, we are off to a good start.

“See, I was in the process of answering a question that had been asked by an audience member when a woman who was extremely distraught screamed out, from the back corner of the auditorium, ‘People are going to die!'"

Ernst recognizes that someone is feeling distraught.  So we have some awareness and empathy then. That's good, right?

“And I made an incorrect assumption that everyone in the auditorium understood that yes, we are all going to perish from this earth. So I apologize."

Oh no she didn't! Yes she did and then she added this.

"And I’m really, really glad that I did not have to bring up the subject of the tooth fairy as well.”

What the unholy fuck is wrong with this woman? Is she completely devoid of empathy and simple human compassion?

“But for those that would like to see eternal and everlasting life, I encourage you to embrace my lord and savior, Jesus Christ."

What?

Really?

Well, fuck you, Joni Ernst!

Joni Ernst pondering the question,
"What IS this thing you call empathy?"

Life is a bitch! It's hard and it's brutal and it ends in death. We get that!

So to is this Senator from Iowa.

By the way Ernst shot her video in a cemetery.

Yes, we get it! We're all gonna die!

Yes, after laughing off the concerns of her constituents about cuts to medical care and food assistance for poor people, this bitch makes a pitch for Jesus?

When reached for comment, a certain lord and savior replied, "Please don't bring me into this!"

I wish I could say that Joni Ernst was an outlier but this cavalier attitude towards the poor is pretty much standard for the Republican Party.

So why worry? We're all just gonna die anyway.

Well, I feel so much better now.
