On
Thursday, the House of Representatives under Democrat control quickly passed
legislation to reopen closed government agencies. A half dozen Republicans signed on to vote in favor of the funding measure.
Here’s
how things are supposed to work.
The
House passes a bill.
The
Senate takes up what the House passes. Maybe they tinker with it a bit . Then
the Senate votes on the bill.
If
it passes the Senate, it goes to the President.
The
President likes it and signs it. Or the President doesn’t like it and he vetoes
the bill.
Then
Congress can vote to override the veto. If the veto override passes, the bill
becomes a law. If the veto override does not pass, the bill is still a
bill.
Here’s
what is actually happening.
The
House passes a bill.
House
majority leader Mitch McConnell says the Senate will NOT take up what the House
passed. Because he knows the President won’t like it and won’t sign it so why
bother?
Basically,
the US government is being held hostage to Donald Trump’s petulant demands for
a border wall but it’s Mitch McConnell who is holding the gun.
Think
about this. Mitch McConnell is deferring the process of democratic governance
to one man’s whims and desires. He won’t push through the funding bill because
he knows the President will veto it. Gee, did that stop the numerous attempts at
Obamacare repeal knowing that President Obama would veto it?
Mitch
McConnell is forfeiting the role the voters of his state put him in office to
do in favor of one person.
Mitch
McConnell is not working for America. Mitch McConnell is working for Donald
Trump.
