Shooting the Messenger

Dear reader, I do so hate doing this but yes, it's a 2nd post about that goddam motherfucker Donald Trump in one day.

Sorry about this but I do feel this is important for me to make note of this. 

This post chronicles Trump's autocratic king-like behavior moving from a "tendency" to "a thing that is actually happening".

Friday morning, the Labor Department issued a report that U.S. employers added only 73,000 jobs last month with the unemployment rate edging up to 4.2%.  Further more, the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) revised previous reports for May and June showing that  the U.S. added 258,000 fewer jobs than it originally tallied.

Friday afternoon, Donald Trump took swift and decisive action to address this grim economic news.

He shot the messenger.

Li'l Donnie fired BLS Commissioner Dr. Erika McEntarfer.

He accused her of cooking the books to make him look bad.

True to form, of course he provided ZERO evidence to support this accusation.

Also true to form, the woman he fired was replaced with a Trump supporting man. (Women in positions of authority within the government have been targetted by Trump and his cronies to be replaced by men. And for the record, all white men as well.) 

Which does nothing to alleviate the facts of the situation: 

• U.S. employers adding only 73,000 jobs last month
• the unemployment rate edging up to 4.2% 
• previous job numbers being adjusted downward.  

All of this is happening mostly due to economic uncertainty. Employers hire based on anticipated needs and it's very hard to look to the future when the present is built on the shifting sand of an unhinged tariff strategy. 

Donald Trump is the sputtering engine of this uncertainty, threatening tariffs, raising tariffs, lowering tariffs, suspending tariffs, raising them again... you get the idea. 

Trump is using tariffs as a bludgeon against everyone for any number of perceived slights against him and the United States.

Recently, Canada indicated it might possibly recognize Palestine as an official state which irks Trump so... TARIFFS!

And as I covered in today's previous post, Li'l Donnie is not doing this shit in tandem with any kind of support staff who might offer some kind of counsel or real factual information. No, he does these things on his whim at whatever pisses him off at any given moment.   

This is not Donald Trump leaning towards autocracy.

This is Trump in full on autocratic mode.  

Who can do business in this kind of unhinged chaos?

So employers hire less.

And the employment numbers go down.

And the BLS dutifully reports those numbers.

And Trump fires the woman in charge of the BLS because the numbers disagree with his delusion that the "Trump economy is booming!"  

Anyone who says otherwise is liable to get "shot". 

I mean that metaphorically, not literally.

For now, anyway.
