Doctor Who: What To NOT Expect

The weather outside the Fortress of Ineptitude is a bit... well, maybe not "frightful" but since the rain seriously kicked in around mid afternoon Sunday, it has not let up in intensity. It just keeps raining.. hard.

Well, before the Fortress floats away, let me take a moment to post about Doctor Who.

We've gone from when is new Doctor Who going to ever get here to looking down the barrel of a premier that is now about 3 weeks away.

Chris Chibnall's super double locked super secret cone of super silence is still encased around any details about what we might expect from Series 11. But we have heard some definitive things about what we're NOT going to get.

NO Missy. No surprise on that as Michelle Gomez made it clear last year that her time on Doctor Who was done/

NO River Song. While it would be cool to see Alex Kingston return as the Doctor's wife now that her husband is a woman now but River is not in the cards.

NO Weeping Angels. As a Steven Moffat creation, it stands to reason an appearance by the Angel as Doctor Who is moving forward with a new showrunner might not be in the cards as well.

NO Cybermen. Given the dominant role the Cybermen had in the last two episodes of Series 10, it would be too soon too revisit them again.

And apparently...

NO Daleks.

As the quintessential enemy of the Daleks, fans sometimes give the show a lot of grief for overusing these bleating evil pepper pots. That being said, the last Dalek centric story in Doctor Who was from Series 9, The Magician's Apprentice (9/19/2015) and  The Witch's Familiar (9/26/2015).

The Daleks had cameos in Series 10 in The Pilot which aired April 15, 2017 and Twice Upon a Time on December 25, 2017.  Otherwise, it's been a bit more than 3 years since the last time the Daleks were the principal antagonists in a Doctor Who adventure.

I agree the Daleks can be overused. I know I've used them too often in my own Doctor Who fan fiction scripts. But the Daleks are the Doctor's ultimate foe and nothing establishes the bonafides of a new Doctor than at least 1 run up against the tin plated dictators.

I know that Chris Chiball is all about looking forward and I commend him for that. But if Jodie Whitaker is going to BE the Doctor, nothing sets that in place like a good ol' Dalek thrashing.
