My daughter and I |
Because the event on Greensboro was held on Sunday, I didn’t see any protestors bellowing at the top of their lungs that the assembled gay men, lesbians, transgender people, drag queens and more were collectively on a fast pass lane to Hell. I guess they were all at church, piously praying in their pews for the love of the Jesus Christ to smite all those perverts, amen.
Meanwhile, their standard bearer is hard at work making that prayer come true.
The Trump administration is pushing an effort to establish a legal definition of sex as either male or female, unchangeable, and determined by the genitals that a person is born with. Any dispute about one’s sex would have to be clarified using genetic testing.
A
person’s status as male or female would be an immutable condition based on biological
traits identifiable by or before birth. Unless there is genetic evidence to
the contrary, what it says on your birth certificate is what you are forever
and ever until you die.
The impetus for this action is two-fold and is the same as it is for all actions taken by Trump and his cronies.
1) It makes the base feel better. Conservatives, especially evangelical Christians, were most sincerely and completely PISSED OFF by prior government efforts to expand the legal concept of sex in federal programs, recognizing sex largely as an individual’s choice. It was this outright hostility to these efforts that prompted fights over bathrooms, dormitories and other areas where divisions of gender were typically regarded as a binary choice. The narrowing of the legal concept of sex in federal programs to boy or girl based on what you’re born with makes conservative evangelical Christians positively giddy.
2) Whatever Obama did, it must be undone.
This is a very significant step but only the latest in Trump’s ongoing battle against the transgender community.
Trump rescinded guidelines that protected transgender students who wanted to use bathrooms that correspond to their gender identity.
Trump sought to bar transgender people from serving in the military.
Trump has legally challenged civil rights protections for the group embedded in the nation’s health care law.
Trump tried to remove questions about gender identity from the 2020 census.
Leading the charge of Trump’s attack on 1.4 million citizens is Roger Severino, the director of the Office for Civil Rights at the Department of Health and Human Services. Before his current job, Severino was head of the DeVos Center for Religion and Civil Society at the Heritage Foundation where he spoke out forcefully against the expansion of benefits and protections for transgender persons. Now in his current job, Severino has the power to push back on the rights of gender identity.
“Transgender people are frightened,” said Sarah Warbelow, the legal director of the Human Rights Campaign, which presses for the rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people. “At every step where the administration has had the choice, they’ve opted to turn their back on transgender people.”
What happens next?
The Department of Health and Human Services will formally present its new definition of sex to the Justice Department before the end of the year.
If the Justice Department decides that the change is legal, the new definition can be approved and enforced in Title IX statutes and across government agencies.
It does look like the fix is in.
Prior decisions by Attorney General Jeff Sessions on transgender protections pretty much make it clear that Sessions would approve a narrowed definition of sex.
Well, if it makes the evangelicals happy and it fucks with something Obama did, Trump’s all for it.
I want to close this post with a reminder that Caitlyn Jenner voted for Donald Trump.
Hey, Caitlyn, how do you feel about that vote now? Or once Trump is done with his assault on the trans-gender community, should we just call you “Bruce” again?
You were born "Bruce". And if the new legal definition of sex goes through, "Bruce Jenner" will be an immutable Condition.

Caitlyn Jenner had this to say: “The Trump administration has ferociously attacked my community again. We will not be erased!”
Jenner along with Laverne Cox, Alexandra Billings and other trans-identifying actors spoke out against the reported Trump plan to redefine gender “on a biological basis” as either male or female, and determined by genitalia at birth.
Jenner is a Republican who backed Trump during the 2016 election and attended his inauguration. But she has wavered in her public take on the president in recent months. In March, Jenner called the administration the “worst ever” for transgender issues. “They’ve set our community back 20 years, easily. It’s going to be hard to change, but we’ve been through these types of things before, and we’ll continue to fight it.”
In August, Jenner called Trump’s presidency “extremely disappointing. I honestly don’t know what happened when he got in there. He’s not been doing a very good job, but it’s not over yet.”
You "don't know what happened"? Nothing happened! Trump is just being himself, a craven cowardly opportunist whose only concern is himself and anyone who is of benefit to himself. If you didn't see that coming from day one, that's on your dumb ass
