Hi there!
Three days of Doctor Who posts. Series 11 is off to a great
start and Jodie Whittaker is going to be awesome as the Doctor!
YAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYY!!!!!!
Now back to the real world.
BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!
So Brett Kavanaugh is on the Supreme Court now and…..
BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!
OK, look I understand the feeling but we’re never going to
get through this blog post with all the interrupting “boos”. So cut that out.
BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!
Oh brother.
Anyway….
Kavanaugh’s on the Supreme Court and….
BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!
I said to cut that out!
And the Republicans are as giddy as a school girl just
before she is sexually assaulted by a class mate and then 30+ years later has
to testify in front of a bunch of old white men who do not believe her and be
insulted by the alleged President of the United States. Yes, they are that
giddy!
Mitch McConnell is just so happy with the way everything
turned out. Asked if he thinks the Senate is broken, Mitch said it isn’t and he
proud of the way his Republican colleagues comported themselves.
Of course, Mitch McConnell does think the Senate is broken
if he defined the Senate solely on the terms of his Republican colleagues and
they got what they wanted, which is Brett Kavanaugh on the Supreme Court
now.
BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!
Hey, I warned you about that.
There is a lot of focus on the Republican’s repudiation of women
in general and sexual assault survivors in particular. Female protesters, victims of sexual assault,
were dismissed as mere clowns, part of a mob of terrorists funded by George
Soros.
BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!
So you’re going to just keep doing that, huh?
But as bad as it was for Republicans to disregard the voices
of so many women, let’s not ignore that they also ignored the voices of a group
of people, mostly men if I had to hazard a guess, that also spoke out against
Brett Kavanaugh.
By the time the final vote came up to confirm Kavanaugh to
the Supreme Court, nearly 2,500 law professors from around the country had
voiced their opposition to this man being named a Supreme Court justice. Their
lack of endorsement was not tied to the allegations made against Kavanaugh but
rather to his response to those allegations. His lack of courtesy and respect
towards certain Senators as well as his statements that reflected a politically
partisan perspective that reflected poorly on Kavanaugh being an objective
arbiter of the law and of the US Constitution.
The thing is this. Even as Republicans lined up to praise
the FBI investigation and declare there’s nothing there to corroborate
Christine Blassey Ford’s allegations, there was the man himself whose conduct in
his defense was reprehensible, disrespectful and blatantly partisan, qualities
that a big chunk of the legal profession said, hey, that guy shouldn’t be on
the Supreme Court.
The myopia on the sexual assault charges and the lack of
independent proof gave cover to craven cowards of the Senate Republicans to
ignore what could be seen, Kavanaugh’s current unfitness for office.
Except that didn't matter, did it?
Come hell or high water, the Senate Republicans were going
to put Brett Kavanaugh on the Supreme Court. And if poor Brett got a little
heated on his behalf, well, the poor little guy was just trying to defend
himself from an assault on his character.
The voices of millions of women were going to be ignored.
2,500 law professors joining the chorus would not make a difference.
BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!
Yeah, go ahead and boo.
