Hey! Hey! Hey! It's a I'm So Glad My Suffering Amuses You post about Doctor Who!
I had reported in a previous post that Doctor Who's next season appeared to be in production. And now we have confirmation from producers Chris Chibnall and Matt Strevens that work on Series 13 is underway.
I had speculated before that production on Doctor Who would likely be impacted by additional restrictions due to the pandemic. And I was right.
Instead of 11 installments (a 10 episode season plus a special), the next round of production will only produce a total of 8 episodes.
Here's what Chris Chibnall had to say about that: “In this strangest of years, the Doctor Who production team have worked wonders to get the show back into production. We’re thrilled to be back making the show. Given the complexity of making Doctor Who, and with new and rigorous COVID working protocols, it’s going to take us a little longer to film each episode, meaning we expect to end up with eight episodes, rather than the usual 11. But rest assured, the ambition, humor, fun and scares you expect from Doctor Who will all still be firmly in place. For everyone around the world, this is a challenging period – but the Doctor never shirks from a challenge!”
So the not so good news is we will be getting less new Doctor Who.
The good news is that we are still getting new Doctor Who. I hope with the lead time and the reduced episode count, this series can be delivered in 2021.
Jodie Whittaker returns as the Doctor in the special "Revolution of the Daleks," which will air on BBC America during the still ambiguously defined "holiday season" so your guess on the actual date for this special is as good as mine.

And Bette Davis takes the spotlight for Cinema Sunday.
Until next time, remember to be good to one another.
