Where We Are Right Now

One of the readers of this blog is... me. 

Well, somebody has to read this damn thing.

I'll go back and look at some damn thing or another I wrote in say 2015 to ponder, what the hell was I thinking then?

If by chance I should look back at some future date and wonder what the hell was on my mind in 2020, specifically Friday, November 6th, I don't want to think "Gee, the most important thing on my mind was stuff going on with the Joker in Batman comics." 

No....

It isn't.  

Hence this post.

Where we are right now: we do not have a winner for President for the 2020 election.

We're getting close.

Right now Joe Biden is leading in 4 states that have not been called. He doesn't need all of them. Nevada and Arizona alone will do just fine. Biden's edge in Georgia is slim and even if it is maintained, it may be close enough to warrant a re-count. Biden's edge in Pennsylvania is slim but growing.  Yesterday I was dismissing Biden gaining ground in Pennsylvania as a pipe dream but the projected gain as mailed in votes are counted seems to be coming to pass.

Right now, Donald Trump is leading in 2 states that have not been called, North Carolina and Alaska. Trump's margin of victory in NC is small but I do not foresee it being reversed.  The electoral college votes from these two states are insufficient for Trump to win. He will need to flip 3 of the states currently leaning towards Biden to win this thing. 

Right now Joe Biden is cool, making statements assuring of his confidence in the election system and urging everyone to be patient.

Right now, Donald Trump is being himself. He is quite predictably in a snit of a tizzy of a rage at anything and anyone who does not accede to his view that he won and any votes that say otherwise are the product of fraud and deception.  

Right now, in the microcosm of this moment of time, Joe Biden is demonstrating why he should be President and Donald Trump is demonstrating why he should NOT be President, should never have been President and should never be President again. 

Trump's energies are focused on defying reality and he doesn't give a single god damn fuck about what American institutions he tears down in his quest for the gratification of his ego.  

Trump is spinning out lies and overheated conspiracy theories with machine gun speed. 

Election centers are counting votes that were received on November 3rd. Some states do allow for votes received after election day as long as they are postmarked for that date; those states are actually processing those ballots separately in case of any legal challenges from Trump or other Republicans. 

Vote counters are NOT (as Trump charges) rummaging through boxes and trash cans looking for votes. 

They are NOT (as Trump charges) refusing to allow monitoring and oversight of their operations. All vote counting operations are monitored by Republican and Democratic observers who have so far reported no evidence of the fraud that Trump claims is occuring.  

Trump supporters, listening to their lord and master, have raided voting counting centers to angrily demand...

Well, they're not sure.

In states where Trump is ahead, his supporters are chanting "STOP THE COUNT!" 

In states where Trump is behind, his supporters are chanting "COUNT THE VOTES!" 

Pick a lane, guys. 

Right now, I am still worried and I will remain worried until the news starts putting a number of 270 or higher next to Joe Biden's name.

I might still stay worried until the electoral college electors meet in December and make this damn thing official. 

Fuck that! I will remain worried until Inauguration Day when Joe Biden is sworn in and Donald Trump slinks out the back door of the White House like the gutless coward he is. 

And God forbid, if a number of 270 or higher winds up next to Donald Trump's name, I'm still unemployed. I have more than enough time to take up a drinking problem.

Or drug addiction?

Sure! Why not?
