Election 2020: WTF?!?

What's new? 

OK, so November 3rd, Election Day, came and went and now we are...

Where? 

As I write this post, we do not know.

OK, what we do know is this. 

Currently, depending on whether you're following CNN or the Associated Press, Joe Biden is sitting at either 253 electoral votes or 264.  

Currently, depending on whether you're following CNN or the Associated Press, there are two states or just one that are leaning towards to Joe Biden. If the current momentum holds with the vote counts, these states if they are ultimately called for Joe Biden will push Joe to exactly the 270 electoral votes he needs to secure the presidency of the United States.

Donald Trump is, of course, pissed. 

In the wee hours of the morning Wednesday, Li'l Donnie made a speech declaring victory and promising to rain legal hellfire on anyone who says different. 

By the way, where exactly is Trump standing? He has 214 electoral votes.  

Right now, there are three states that have not been called that are leaning towards Trump. Sadly, one of them is my home state of North Carolina. the others are Georgia and Pennsylvania. If all three wind up being called for Donald Trump, that represents a total of 51 electoral votes.

Which brings Li'l Donnie to 266 which is 4 short of the 270 needed to win. 

So that seems to bode well for Joe Biden to prevail. But if Trump can reverse his fortunes in either of the two Biden leaning states that have not been called, that would push Li'l Donnie over the line for the win.

Unless...

Right now, it looks like North Carolina and Georgia will carry the day for Donald Trump. However, Pennsylvania might still be in play with millions of ballots still to be counted. State law in Pennsylvania does not allow to even begin processing  mailed in ballots until the day of the election. Which means Pennsylvania began November 3rd already behind the eight ball. Current assessments are that counting of these votes will take several days. And the conventional wisdom is that most of those mailed in ballots are from Democrats which may be sufficient numbers to overturn Trump's current advantage in Pennsylvania.

So the nightmare goes on. 

Maybe if we're lucky, by the time this posts Thursday morning, maybe the last two Biden states will be called and Joe will have his 270. 

Or maybe Donald Trump has one more damn rabbit in his hat to secure victory after all. 

Now here's a question on a lot of minds: why the fuck are we in this position? 

How can someone so badly mismanage the responsibilities of his office that has resulted in a quarter of a million Americans dead and millions more out of work still be in contention for being rehired for 4 more years? 

That is an analysis for another day.
