Wanna Go Apeshit

"What do you think? You know the shit he's been saying! He's been calling Mexican immigrants rapists and criminals. I don't know, like, members of the press, what the fuck?"
-
---Beto O'Rourke

The above quote was when presidential candidate Beto O'Rourke was asked what he thought Donald Trump could do in the wake of the mass shooting in El Paso.

What did Beto think about that?

Sometimes you do wanna go apeshit.

In "normal" times, we might look to the President to provide some kind of comfort or unity in a time of tragedy. In the case of Donald Trump, however, there is no such expectation. Trump has invested so much time festering hate, anger and fear, haranguing whatever part of the country doesn't agree with him at any given time, there is no goodwill, no moral authority to speak to or appeal to unity and peace in the aftermath of a tragedy, particularly a tragedy where we can draw a direct line linking the carnage in El Paso and the hateful rhetoric of Donald Trump.

Beto O'Rourke decided not to be polite about drawing this link.

In recent posts about Democratic candidates for President, I have not been positive in my assessment of Beto. I believe I referred to him as a "Candidate Ken" doll. But I have to say he has gone up a bit in my estimation with his unequivocal response to Trump's culpability in what happened in El Paso.

And right on cue, Trump showed his true colors, tweeting that O'Rourke should 'be quiet'.

Trump also took a jab at O'Rourke's nickname calling it 'phony' and implying that he uses it for political gain.

Beto's full name is Robert Francis O'Rourke. He goes by Beto which is a nickname he has gone by since childhood.

Our uniter in chief in action?

O'Rourke hit back, defending his hometown and again placing blame on the president for 'inspiring' an 'act of terror.'

Sometimes we see an injustice so great, we can't hold back, we can't be quiet.

Sometimes you do just wanna go apeshit.
