Dave-El here and I'm back with a Doctor Who blog post!
Yay!
I did not do a Doctor Who blog post last weekend for the first time in 18 months. I missed it. I also miss the "round things".
Even if I have no idea what they are.
Let's get moving with the Who stuff!

The Doctor becomes a villain?
Well, not really but 10th Doctor David Tennant has been signed to play the role of the villainous Kilgrave in one of Marvel’s NetFlix series, AKA Jessica Jones. Kilgrave originated as The Purple Man way, way back in the 1960’s in an issue of Daredevil. The Purple Man was more than just a man who was purple but could control others through his super pheromones. People under his control would also turn purple which was a dead giveaway unless you’re the blind superhero Daredevil.
Seeing Tennant play a villain will be unusual but not unheard of. Tennant appeared in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire as the disreputable… Billy Barty Jr? Slartibarfast? I realy don’t feel like looking it up. He wasn’t on screen very long and what we did see, his character seemed more slimy than evil, which may well have been the intent.
So after Gracepoint did not get renewed, David Tennant has found work once more on American television and attached to the very popular Marvel Cinematic Universe. Good on you, David!

The Doctor should never be a woman!
So declares, rather emphatically, former Doctor Peter Davison. As the actor who played the 5th Doctor from 1981 to 1984 said that the modern series depicts the current role of the Doctor as an emotionally needy man supported by a strong female counterpart. “If you have an uncertain, fallible female Doctor with a really strong male companion," Davison commented, "you’ve got more of a stereotype than anything else.”
Of course Peter Davison's opinion is just that, an opinion. And it's not one shared by the show's current producer and head writer, Steven Moffat.
Yep, the guy in charge of Doctor Who is cool with the idea of a female Doctor.
So is this a fait accompli? Are we actually looking at the very real possibility that the next Doctor is going to be played by a woman?
I'm not sure how I feel about a female Doctor. On one hand, the story opportunities growing out of such a status quo shake up with be amazing. On the other hand, it seems too much like a gimmick, a desperate attempt to grab attention.
And to be honest, I don't want to talk about the next Doctor, whoever he (or she) might be. I'm still excited by what Peter Capaldi's Doctor is going to do in the next series.
Although...
As Capt. Jack said, "I really can't tell you what I'm thinking right now."

Speaking of the next series, still no stills from Doctor Who Series 9 yet?
C'mon, give me SOMETHING! PLEASE?

Click here for an interview with Mike Collins, principal artist on the Doctor Who Magazine comic strip. Except maybe for Dave Gibbons, Collin has been my favorite Doctor Who artist. In fact, I've really enjoyed the work of writer Scott Gray on the strip as well; Gray perfectly captures the "voice" of the show but creates plots and situations suited for comic book form.

And that is a wrap for me today. Tomorrow is SUPER BOWL SUNDAY and horror of horrors, I may have a party to go to.
Really? Me?
I know.
And I'm so glad my suffering amuses you.
Be good to one another.
