"There's excitement in the air.”
---Donald Trump before setting one foot outside the plane.
Once there was this guy who suggested that the President of the United States could possibly meet with the leader of a rogue state such as North Korea, Sean Hannity ripped this person’s “lack of foreign policy expertise” and called the idea “disturbing” and “naïve.”
Now
that a President has actually winged his away across oceans and continents to
meet the leader of North Korea, Hannity can hardly control his slobbering as he
kisses this guy’s ass. He said that the mere “willingness to meet with
North Korea is a huge foreign policy win.”
What
changed for Sean Hannity?
The
first guy was Barack Obama. The second guy is Donald Trump.
The
GOP, Fox News pundits and Trump himself gave Obama shit over the very stuff
that Trump is doing now and getting praised for by his sniveling
sycophants.
Well,
this is nothing new. As foreign policy
scholar Tom Wright recently put it on Twitter: “If a President Bernie Sanders were doing exactly what [Trump] is doing
on North Korea (summit, praising Kim, weird letters, trying to pull troops out,
sidelining Japan), the Congress would be going haywire, considering
impeachment, emergency veto proof measures, etc.”
Trump
flouts his lack of preparation or interest in the gritty details as an asset,
emphasizing his intuition. “I think I’m
very well prepared. I don’t think I have to prepare very much. It’s about the
attitude.”
Imagine
a President Hillary Clinton or Bernie Sanders saying that, or even Barack Obama.
Devin Nunes would be drafting up articles of impeachment so fast, it would make
your head spin.
Whether
Li’l Donnie succeeds or fails is almost beside the point to his supporters.
When Trump landed in Singapore, touting the “excitement in the air” despite not
setting a foot outside, his former communications staffer Jason Miller tweeted,
“Clinton couldn’t do it. Bush couldn’t do it. Obama couldn’t do it. Trump IS
doing it!”
So
how are things in Singapore?
That’s
coming up next.
